Why is it so slow in here

Take me back to 2006/2007 where the entire page refreshed with new posts by the second.

This is how I remember it. Half the shit was JohnCU cause he was drunk posting, the other half was such threads as the AC, better Nate, bulk beef, PAB, cleaning a stain in your driveway, etc. Now I'm relying on a TridenT thread that has gone to shit since he's apparently employed. :'(

I still keep coming back though.......... :hmm:

In general web forum traffic has declined as people move to platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, etc. That, in combination with a stagnation in tech innovation, has limited that amount of new stuff to talk about. It won't be long until web forums disappear like newsgroups and IRC.

I'm not happy with the change but it is rather inevitable at this point. A reversal would require a dramatic shift in the way that this place is moderated and way that users consume information on the internet.

What alternatives have you found? It's hard to find a replica of the amazing user base from ~2006. New stuff like reddit doesn't match the quality and quantity of content that used to be here.

I haven't really. I don't do Facebook as it's format doesn't lend to any sort of in depth discussions. I've started dabbling in Reddit but find its forum structure infuriating with the way its comments nest. It's like going back to the original days of BBS formating and /.

Hah, you sound exactly like me. Often I feel like the old fart on the internet at 26 :/ Damn these new kids with their dubstep and the attention span of a gnat.

I would have switched to a more active site long ago if there was another one worth moving to. So I guess I'm kind of stuck here for the foreseeable future.
