I recently got contacts. Now I've only worn them for a few times (I lost one when I was on a trip, and didn't bring extras). So now that I'm back home, I'm trying to wear them again.

It takes forever! Any tips?

You just get used to putting them on after several tries. It used to take me 5 minutes because my contacts wouldn't stick to my eyes but I'm a pro now. Are these hard or soft contact lenses?

That's how I was at first. You'll eventually get used to putting them on and touching your eye. I can now touch my eye with my contact on and move it around. Before I could not even get close to touching my eye at all.

They're a pain, but it goes away. And much better than glasses any day of the week.

It took me about 2hrs to put them in by myself the first time...lets just say the optometrist was getting a little feisty.

These are soft lenses.

I'm also scared of them falling off once I put them in (like after 5 hours or so).

It used to take me about half an hour to put each one in, then after a while I can pretty much get them on within 5 tries. The only thing I don't like about contacts are when they dry out, or losing them when swimming or playing rugby (which happens to me just about EVERY game and most of the practices). I really like how they don't take up real estate on my face, or how I can see more clearly with contacts than with glasses, even though they're the same prescription.

I've always thought that if I needed contacts I'd not use them - I'd go with glasses or eye surgery. I have a thing with eyes. Mine are not to be touched by anything but my eyelids. I suppose I'd put up with a hot beam of light in there for a short while, but long term use of contacts is not something I could do.

If they fall out it happens...luckily only one or the other will....always have a backup pair or glasses.

I have once swam underwater with my eyes open (long story but let's say me and my mermaid were sans clothing)...

lasik and the like are ultra cheap now so if thats not an issue (risk, price, long term questionability) then the cheapest I have found was locally here for $290 per eye (and up). Personally I'd have to research that claim a long while.

Now once you get them in and say after a month at most...if they still feel uncomfortable then get a new brand, a couple brands I have tried were horrible....always felt like my lens was moving (each blink equally a split second of blur).

I like my Focus Torics, $55 per box and under for a pack of 6 (where 1-2 months then trash...my longest has been over a year :()

I am able to put mine on without using a mirror. Takes me less than 20 seconds.

Hahahah I had the same problem. I was in the office jabbing at my eye FOREVER.

Now I can almost throw them in my eye (< 3 seconds each). Practice makes perfect.

Yeah definitely....I forgot about those days...

Now I also shave without a mirror too :) everyonce in a while I will mess up a sideburn, fortunately it's always not shaving enough vs. shaving too much.

repeated practice. you have to wear them daily in order to get used to them.

take eyedrops with you everywhere too, in case your eyes feel dry.

If I had a choice I think I would use glasses, but since contacts are the only thing that works for me I have to use them.

You get used to them. Where do you live? Humidity makes a big difference, the pacific NW is one of the best areas in the US for contact wearers.

Just be glad you can wear normal OTC contacts. Mine cost over $200 a pair.

Everybody goes thru that phase.

Goes away after a few weeks, though. At first I was super paranoid about sticking anything into my eyes. Now when I get the occasional eyelash on my eye, I will just shove a finger in there and snag it out.

One time I had my contacts out already, but being a creature of habit and my usual bedtime I went to take them out .. . again. I was feeling around my eyeball with my finger wondering where in the hell my contact was. Was not until I stepped away from the mirror and couldn't see a blasted thing did I realize I already took them out.

Just make sure the bottle in your pocket you grab is not the AT Hot Deal's free KY or worse yet KY warming sample.

A very cheap way to do this is buy one bottle of eye drops (for your contacts) and then refill with the solution of choice for your contacts.

I live in Toronto (Canada).

Also, the solution that you put in the contact case, you can put that in your eye?

oh cool. I didn't know that. I also have a thing about putting eye-drops in my eye. I find it quite difficult. So I can put the eye drops in my eye while I'm wearing the contacts?

Finally, anyone have any experience with CooperVision Encore Sphere contacts? Those are the ones I'm using right now.

it is very odd that you don't mind someone cutting your eye, then disintegrating part of it with a laser but contacts are right out!
