I'm trying to ship an old/damaged notebook to Canada via Fedex, and it's quite a PITA. So much paperwork, and I can't even find plain "computer" on the code list..bah. So, I'm trying to print the 'commercial invoice', and I hope that's the right one...this is annoying - maybe I should stick with USPS for Canadian shipments.

Is there an easier way to do this??

Hard to arrange for an armored escort to keep the mail safe from arctic wolves when you only have one tank.

Have you guys ever shipped something into the US? It's not any easier. Countries like to know what's passing through their borders ya know.

Please stick with shipping by the USPS when sending merchandise to Canada unless you're sending the package via the express service. Otherwise, UPS and Fedex charge a ridiculous brokerage fee when it gets to the recipient ($30-40 + customs). The mail charges a flat rate of $5 for brokerage so that's why we prefer it

Hmmm. I shipped a guy some RAM a few days ago using FedEx Ground. Cost me $9.21, all I had to do on my end was create a FedEx account, print out a shipping label online, then go to a ship center, fill out a customs form (very easy) and give it all to them. I hope he doesn't get stuck with a $30-40 fee though. :Q

Ah crap...already printed my label with my Fedex account. They don't charge until it's delivered though....but I hate to use USPS for a 12lb box!

He will get a fee, though not quite as big as UPS (AKA satan). There's like 2 brokerage fees then they throw on 15% tax of the declared value. Most of this can be avoided with USPS. If you just mark it below $20, I don't think we have to pay anything. I have big orders from amazon all the time and I don't get charged anything.

I hate UPS. Before I knew about this crap I was charged 60 f*cking dollars for something I bought for $100. Another time $24 for something I bought for $30. Never again.

Do us canucks a favor and don't use UPS...use USPS, or at the very worst Fedex.
