Why is it overheating??

I have a P4 2.4C 800 Mhz with the stock heatsink but I added Arctic Silver 3 Thermal paste to the Heatsink. It idles at 35 degrees C/95 degrees F. When I play a game, my Asus Probe beeps at me and interupts the game. I had the threshold set at 65 degrees. Is that about right? What is the max I should let it get to before I get concerned? What is considered hot during a game?

Here's my Rig

P4 2.4C
1 GB Crucial Ram
Asus P4C800DX Mobo
Radeon 9600 Pro
WD 120 GB

I also have a case fan blowing air through the box. I don't think airflow is a problem. Thanks.

assuming your m/b is not giving you a bad reading, those sensors aren't accurate. they are reliable for relative comparison though. your heatsink seems to be mouted fine as during idle its rather low temp. perhaps your case needs more airflow. that being said, if ur case isn't horribly stuffed, and ur pc doesn't crash, don't worry about it.

If this is your processor, it can produce up to 75.1 watts.SL6Z3.

That's a lot of heat potential. :sun:

I would make sure the heatsink is installed properly. Did you remove all traces of original thermal compound before installing the Arctic Silver?

Yes, I made sure to remove the thermal compound that was on the heatsink originally. My case is a pretty big case. So, it's not cramped. I think the airflow is ok. I have a large fan in the back of the case sucking out air and the MB temp reading says its 34 degrees. Maybe I'll see if it makes a difference if I open the case and blow a fan in there and see if the temp goes up still. Thanks for your help.
