Why is it okay to raise a truck to the point of pretty much blinding the driver in front of you?

WTF are you talking about? I guess semi trucks shouldn't be allowed either because they're too tall? Here's an idea; don't follow so f#cking close and you'll be fine. Seems simple enough to me.

If there are, they [the cops] seem to turn the blind eye here in Southern Cal.

How can you get blinded by a car that in front of you?

You don't need to jack up your truck to blind people. Most european and japanes luxury cars already do with their HID. Speaking of which, I need to tint my car windows, 'cause everybody's got high beam on all the time now a days. assholes.

Apparently only tall vehicles can have mis-aligned headlights, unlike the ghettos Civics with one blue and one OEM headlight, one going up and the other aimed about 20 degrees off center.

So am I. If someone has a lowered car, the only difference to me is that if I get rearended, they go underneath my truck instead of into the trailer hitch. :p

If you raise your rig, you should re-aim your headlights accordingly.

or oncoming traffic...which is a little worse IMO unless youre stuck at a light and the guy is right behind you blinding you for 5 mins

I lifted mine and I might need to adjust my headlights up a little...replaced broken rear leaf springs and now my low-beams are close to worthless! :(

Unfortunately, the Kahleeforneeya Vehicle Code give them lots of leeway on height:
"The headlamps and every light source in any headlamp unit shall be located at a height of not more than 54 inches nor less than 22 inches."

Semi trucks have their headlights placed low to conform to the headlight height laws. Illegally lifted vehicles end up with their headlights significantly above the maximum height.

If properly aligned, the height of oncoming headlights makes little difference to how much they "blind" you. If anything, the higher the better, since the headlight will be aimed further downwards, with fewer rays hitting oncoming traffic directly.

I seem to be seeing this happen a lot more frequently as well, which is very annoying. I guess that bright blue "highbeam" icon on the driver's instrument panel just isn't enough of an attention grabber...which isn't a surprise, considering the large numbers of people who can seemingly drive for miles without realizing they've left a blinker on.

Other annoying happenings that seem to be more common nowadays:

1) People forgetting to turn their headlights on in the first place
2) Driving down the highway with hazards on
3) Not using turn signals. Ever.
