Why is it now required that ASUS MBs...

... can only be purchased with other hardware? Recently, most all online tech stores I've visited are saying this, even when it's a retail version.

The only time I've ever seen this is with OEM Microsoft OSs. Is this a new policy ASUS has started to implement?

Example, nearly all of them say, "Order will not be processed if Sales Order consists of mother board only."

I'm guessing here but judging from the wording, I would say it is because they are doing (and promoting) a "package deal" with ASUS. It is not on all their boards so that is my best guess. However, after going through the entire list of ASUS MB's listed with NewEgg, it does seem strange. I mean, my current MB, the A7M266 is listed for $115.00. Not bad but Fry's has them for about $70.00: No deal offered here. Most of the other ones have the "must order" mentioned. I'm wondering if other "inquiring minds" have any ideas?

It's easy :). If you look attentively you can see that "Must be Purchased with other Hardware..." is valid only for OEM package(I saw it in newegg). All retail mobos can be purchased separately.

Not so fast. I have bought OEM from them before. I am now thinking that these items are part of the "special" deals they offer and tie to other items for a few bucks off. Like buy this case and get $5.00 off the purchase of an XYZ Power Supply. However, instead of "offering" it, you now MUST buy the components together to get this price. Kinda sucks actually. Not that big of a savings.
