Why is it called THE NUTS?

I have no idea, but I'd imagine it probably started in a way similar to this:

Man A has the nut straight draw. Man B, not knowing this, makes a very large bet. Man A--smiling gleefully to himself--calls and reveals his cards. Man B says something akin to, "good lord, I feel like someone just kicked me in the nuts."

I'm probably way off, but it seems plausible to me.

In the old days, people would take the nuts off their wagons wheels if they wanted to bet their horse and wagon. So, you'll have the nuts if you win.

They had a little thing on the WPT last weekend talking about the nuts and that's where they said it came from.
