<< I've been using IE, because Netrape doesn't show specialized characters like a b c on AnandTech forums. I don't like NS 6.x interface. I prefer NS 4.x interface more than anything and I'd continue to use it if there wasn't issues with certain pages or constant crashing. >>

How about using Netscape 6.x/Mozilla with the Classic skin?

Simple: Netscape crashes too often to be of any real use. IE is also very fast and responsive.

I've Mozilla running whenever I'm behind my PC. It crashes less than Windows (2k) does.

Mozilla is slow ans lumbering for me and it's Java rendering sucks in comparison..................my opinion, I use it everyday and I've tried Mozilla & Nutscrape.........they just don't fit my needs.........Opera is somewhat better, but, IE is still faster...........

How are you comparing Netscape with Windows? And if 2K crashes often, then you haven't configured it properly. I've had an uptime of over 180 days on 2K - and I do heavy development.

It isn't, IMO ;) But I prefer Mozilla over them anyway...

To my knowledge, the start-up time of Mozilla isn't that good, but the actual HTML-redering is fast. And I don't care about the start-up time, I'll just do something else for the few seconds it takes to load the browser. And since I only do it once, it REALLY is not a big deal. But since I access web-sites all the time, HTML-rendering is alot more important. And I have no complains when it comes to that. Well, Konqueror is even faster :)

<<Could it be that the other browser render web-pages like they should be rendered according to W3C-standard, while IE does not?>>

Good Point! and to prove that-
I know that when I design a page, I check 'em in every browser and platform availble to me (4 computers in my house helps a lot!).
I gotta say Opera, or Mozilla seem to render a lot more 'true' to the code that my poor little fingers type out in notepad!
I make something in Front Page, and it renders beautifully in IE, but not quite right in other browsers. hmmm.......

I remember thinking that the Web Browser was awesome, but wouldn't last, BOY I WAS WRONG!
I used the MOSAIC Browser when it first came out (on my Mac Plus 6" B&W Screen)! I used IE until 4, I just had bad luck with the IE4.x versions (on the PC).
Used Netscape and Mozilla durng the IE4x days, didn't necessarily like Nutscrape, but it worked.
I Think IE5.x Versions are great. Java's real nice. So happy with it i'm afraid to go up to 6.
Opera 5 is great too. Tried 6, and though it was kinda weird.
On the Mac Side, I use either Netscape 4.7, or Mozilla. Honestly haven't tried IE5.x yet, but 4.5 was, clunky, slow, crashable, and a headache.

That's the bad point actually because it means as a webpage designer you have to do extra work to get the webpage to render properly in Opera and other browsers. It kinda sucks when you've completed a webpage and it looks great in IE only to find that Opera F****S it all up. I would like to see another browser that actually compete's directly against IE instead of trying to adhere to the W3C standard.

The reason I continue to use IE is very simple. I use web browsers for 1 simply reason: to view the web, so I want a browser that has a very minimal design so it isn't cluttering up room that could be used to view the web. IE has microsofts standard toolbars which have the nice capability of being dragged and customized very easily. So using this ability I made my File menu, toolbar, and URL box all in the same row across the top. This means I only have 1 bar across the top and everything else is webpage. I've yet to see another browser that gives the simplicity of IE while still retaining functionality. Netscape's new GUI actually adds so much stuff I feel like I'm staring out of a tank when I view a website.

If someone wants to impress me, they will make a web browser that is very fast and very simple, yet with many many options available behind the scenes. When that comes out, I would drop IE in a second.

It's funny that something so simple and stupid can make such a difference, but the intial load time is what originally drove me to IE. Later, it was all the AOL BS that it installed with it.

Jerboy -- NS 6.21 shows all the special characters. I agree that the new interface sucks. That's why I'm using the "classic" skin that comes with it. So far (about threee weeks), stability is not a problem.

I don't understand why that is a bad point. a standard is a standard for a reason. If I make a web page in Front Page2k, Especially pages with a lot of CSS's, and Tables, it renders beautifully in IE, but not so well in other browsers. That's like saying that Framing a house 16" on Center is bad, only because 1 person does it another way.
If I type out the Code in Arachnophilia, Homesite, or Notepad, according to the 'W3C-standard' or HTML3&4 Standards, it renders perfectly in every browser, including IE. WYSIWYG Editors have come a long way, but still got a ways to go, IMHO.
</flame suit> :D

This Handy little HTML Validator Tool has made me realize how badly Web Authoring Programs (Mainly Front Page2k) can sometimes mangle HTML Code, (keeps my coding straight, too)! I 'cheat' a lot and do Tables/CSS's in Dreamweaver3 or FP2k, and have this help me correct whatever isn't right!
Anyone remember that stupind thing w/MSN's Shopping Passport a few months back?? Where users of browsers other than IE were not allowed to log in?? Microsoft calimed it was the fault of other browsers not being 'W3C Compliant', when it was actually the other way around!
Don't get me wrong, I think that IE5x is a great browser, lots of things I like about it.

Thinking about this thread, I upgraded to IE5 on my Mac today at work. Pretty damm cool, I like the drop and drag buttons on and off the toolbar feature! Seems VERY Stable compared to 4.5. Still like Mozilla for Mac the best, though.
