Why is Hollywood fixated on leather armour?

I see it in every damn movie or tv show. No one wore leather in battle unless it was boiled leather or sewn with armor plates in it.

Probably reason I can't watch the Vikings tv show...its like they are wearing leather biker jackets...how the fuck does that shit stop swords and spears.

Mail and plate armor were very expensive, and most vikings(who were farmers) couldn't afford it. Aside from that, leather looks cool on tv.

One thing I've wondered, is if antlers were used for armor. That's fairly rugged, and anyone could afford it.

The Lord of the Rings production had metal armor. In fact they hired actual armorers to make everything by hand.
