Eh, they are downloaded in the background and take effect whenever you restart the browser. What do you have against updates and bugfixes? And it saves your session and restores all your tabs upon restarting.

To answer your question, Tools -> Advanced-> Updates

i agree, it is annoying as hell

FF is borked on my computer too. some flash sites don't work (updated to the latest too). also, facebook chat won't accept keyboard inputs - it works for a min or two, then just stops.

You can disable app compatibility in about:config or you could download nightly tester tools to selectively ignore compatibility.
Between that and tab state being saved, there's not much you lose by upgrading.

They really need to move a lot of those about:config options into the main options panel, like disabling the *ahem* "Awesome" bar.

Options --> Privacy --> "When using location bar..."

You have a problem with the Mozilla people pushing out bugfixes and security updates?

I had a discussion a few days ago with a coworker. It went something like this:

Him: Don't use Windows Update. It corrupts the system. You will have to reinstall.
Me: WTF? How? What happened to yours?
Him: It just fucks things up.
Me: How? I know once every year a hotfix breaks something but it's usually resolved in a couple of days. Usually obscure stuff, surely something that wouldn't affect your Facebook/Youtube-machine.
Him: No, it corrupts Windows. Everyone knows this.

Ok, maybe he didn't say the last part but a lot of people don't believe in updates. I don't know why - they just don't.

I don't have any inherent problems with software updates, but with Firefox and Adobe applications they come out way too often. If you're updating your tiny little web browser more often than MS is updating their behemoth OS, you're doing something wrong.

Mozilla is quicker to fix problems than MS is. It also uses plugins that are essential to the modern browser experience, eg Flash and Java. Addons update when the author updates them, but that can be easily turned off. It doesn't even update until you restart your browser.
