why is finding computer on LAN so slow

subaquous

I have windows 2k and 2 other win 98 computers. When I look for stuff on theirs, it takes atleast a couple of minutes for their files to initial pop up. After the initial delay, everything works fine. When they look at mine and at each others, the files pop up real quick. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same prob.... can't figure it out. Though my prob is with NT and Win 98... I have tried posting for help before I think... maybe someone will answer..

Hmmm...not really, I don't have this problem. Folders are very fast (5.6Mbps). I have two systems running Win98SE and the server running NT4 SP6.

Even waiting for 10 seconds it too long for an initial delay.

Had this problem last year in win98 after adding second NIC for DSL connection. Network Neighborhood very slow to come up, and would occasionally even time out, even though ping and "find /computer" were quick. Solved it by making Netbeui the default LAN protocol.
