Why is everything Google releases beta?

I'm guessing they benefit by having this so if any complaints (regarding bugs or features) arise, they can just say "It's in beta." It just gets tiresome.

GoogleNews is in perpetual beta because they can't figure out how to make money off it without getting their asses sued off. Gmail will eventually go non-beta, what else is still beta?

isnt thte desktop search still in beta?
