Why is US different from the more likely Europe or rest of the world ?

* driving on the opposite side
* Power surge 110 V
* football Vs rugby
* baseball Vs Cricket
* Power plugs rectangles Vs round
* miles Vs killo meters
* pounds Vs kg

and many more.

I think its more of like clash between the top notch nations. US being a super power sets its own standards but don't you think it would better had we a universal standard.

A lot of these differences (not just the ones you listed) were in place long before the US was established as one of the premier global powers.

The US still uses the imperial system, why? Because we are stubborn and resist change. Plus the cost of changing just isnt worth it.

Most of the world drives on the same side we do. England, Australia, and Japan are the major exceptions. The rest of Europe drives on the right.

The metric system was invented by the French. Americans hate the French and, thus, hate the metric system by association.

I also want to mention that when I went to England, they use MPH instead of KM/hr, and they measure their weight in stone.

And what would you say when the same thing happens, except its because someone forgot to convert from imperical to metric?

That's often the reason given by the media, but that wasn't the real reason. Was more of a computer programming error how it dealt with errors accumulating. Europe's Mars lander crashed, but both of ours are still operating.
