Hey, have you tried Netscape 6.1 ? I has the best look for a web browser. I used to use Netscape for surfing the Net, but after the lawsuit, somehow I switched to IE. I thought Netscape was dead. But no ! Look again...... It is much better than IE5 now...... This is the web browser to use in the new millennium. What do you think?

UPDATE: For those of you looking to download Netscape, here is the link:

just once question
when you click on netscape 6.1 how long does it take to load up
with IE it is instantly
if netscape can do the same, I will give a try
but i doubt i will stay, because i love IE5 too much.
unless netscape can poll the magic like what IE4 did.
IE4 was the reason i dump netscape

Netscape 6 is still buggy.. why? because it's based on the open source project Mozilla.. Mozilloa 0.8 is much better then Netscape 6.. I tried Mozilla and I'd say it's getting there. Opera 5 is also pretty good. and no, I don't use IE.

Is it April first already?

IE 5.01 dominates everything else on the browser market.

Sorry, but NS 6 seemed too slow and strange to me. I'm still using NS 4.72 and recently got Opera 5 (too bad that at least under linux NS 4.x doesn't show homepages made with crap called "Frontpage" well). Under Windoze IE is definately fastest browser cause it's a part of the system: when crashing it mostly takes all OS down with it...

What does that have to do with the HTML rendering engine? IE and Netscape render HTML differently. That's where the performance difference comes from.

That's no longer the case with IE5 and there was a workaround for that with IE4 also.

Opera 5, now there's a good browser.
I allways use Opera, cept the occasional site that doesnt work with it, where I use Netscape 4.76.

Sites that say "IE only" arent worth my hit anyway, the webmaster should learn to fscking code properly.

As I said in the Opera post...why download another "free" browser?
Actually I can read these pages fine with IE - so if it ain't broke don't fix it :)

Most of the common folk use Windows 98 --> Windows 98 has an IE --> Most web sites are optimized for the IE and work best with it --> why change it (Other than curiosity or Linux, or course)?

This message is to Sunner.
You haven't done any serious web coding have you? Let me tell you how behind F#$%#$ Netscape is when it come to web development. I could give you a list of CSS keywords that Netscape does not support. And I'm not even going to get started when it comes to client side scripting. Netscape sucks not jut for the user, but bigtime for the developer. Unless netscape gets in gear, your going to see more nd more "IE only" sites.

coder1 is correct. It's altogether too easy to create a site that is 100% compliant with W3C specs at any level that will crash Netscape. I've spent years dealing with Netscape's annoying tendency to ignore the rules of the road. I don't do it any more. A few years ago the Web was filled with sites that were "Netscape only". Many of them were coded using Netscape's stupid inbuilt html editor which used proprietary Netscape structures. What goes around comes around.

Read my post again, where did I mention anything about "Netscape compliance"?
I stated that I thought "IE only" sites suck, a site shouldnt be for a browser, it should be for a standard, and any browser thats compliant with that standard shouuld work fine with it.

If Netscape doesnt follow standards, thats Netscape's fault, end of story, but sites that use IE properiarity tags etc, thats what sucks.

What standard? Netscape complies with very few other than its own! Although IE incorporates proprietary stuff, at least it will show a standards-compliant Web page. Netscape of any iteration can't be counted upon to do that.

I'd agree that it doesn't make sense to deliberately write pages that can only be viewed by one browser -- unless, perhaps, you're writing for an intranet on which all users are equipped with that particular browser. But people were using Netscape's proprietary features to deliberately exclude IE users on the Web for years before anyone started retaliating.

The pages I've written for clients can be read by any browser that is compliant with basic W3C and CAST (blind screen reader) rules. But I learned long ago that there are some contortions that are just not worth it to cater to the few percent of viewers who continue to insist on using a browser that ignores such a large percentage of the standards. So, although I've never written a site that deliberately excludes Netscape users, I have given up on trying to keep from causing Netscape users any problems. My clients agree when they see the difference in development time and site efficacy. Accommodating the Netscape browser simply forces too many functional limitations on site design, and it can cause ALL of the other browsers to fail.

Regards,
Jim

The Mac version is REALLY Buggy and Very, Very Slow. Most of my users have went back to NS 4.7x or IE5 (which is a very impressive browser)
Recommend IE5 for Win and Mac
