Why is everyone trying to create "Largest Facebook group evar?

Is there any real "largest group ever" on facebook?

I am constantly plagued by invites to join groups made by my friends to be the "Greatest facebook group ever"

One of em says it's officially recognized by guiness. I dunno though, I think they're just stupid popularity contests.
