Why is everyone going crazy for the wii??

Help me understand here.... Back when it was called the revolution, people were geenrally saying stuff like meh... its gonna be nintendos last console.. meh its not gonna be anythin special. Now its called the wii, everyones gone mad about it. Why?
 
No. People were excited when it was called the Revolution too. As more and more details about the control scheme, the virtual console setup, and other information has been released, people have gotten more excited.

The name has nothing to do with. People were initially down on the name change from Revolution to Wii but still excited about the console itself.
 
back when it was the revolution, hardly anything was known about the system. they revealed the new name Wii right before the previous E3, and prior to that, hardly ANYTHING was known about the system in general.

and people are excited about it because it's not the same old crap we've been playing for 10 years with 10x the resolution and hires textures. it's a new way to actually play games.

Lots of gaming websites and self proclaimed "serious gamers" are all excited about it.

The idea of evolving controllers is great...but in practice...I don't see how anyone other than kids under 10 will think this is really all that great.

How many adults want to be flailing around there living room trying to play a video game? Not me. I play video games to relax. If I wanted to play football, I'd go outside and throw a ball. If I wanted to play golf...the real thing is 100x better.

I'm perfectly happy with the current crop (x360) controllers that wirelessly let me plop my ass on the couch and enjoy an hour of two of relaxing gaming. Not to mention how many adult males will suddenly find themselves single when there SO sees them fighting Darth Vader with a funky remote in the living room shouting out "Father, I know you are still good!"
 
Why would anyone care what the name is? They could call it the shlong and it would still do the same thing. People like Nintendo because they have good games that are playable by all age groups. The X-box and Playstation have crap when it comes to kids games.
 
The reason people like it so much is because its pretty amazing. When I was at E3 it pretty much stole the show and the Wiibooth was by far the most popular. The price is definately a big factor in its popularity, and the new controller style is unique.

Yeah, because we all know that those adult males sitting their fat asses on the couch playing video games are what women REALLY want.

The change of opinion started when people saw the control scheme and heard about the virtual console, which was before the name was announced. People really started changing their minds when they saw how much fun people were having playing it at E3 (immediately after the name was announced).

Neato controllers + fun Nintendo games ftw 🙂 My wife won't play Halo or Half-Life or anything, but she will play stuff like Mario Kart. So unless I was to go solo, I have to get a family machine.

That's funny, but I don't believe it's accurate. My fiance is excited to play WiiSports & Wii's Super Monkey Ball with me. She's already pre-ordered my Wii. I really think the new control scheme is going to even get my dad back into video games after he got tired of the "hottest new games" all being FPSes.

#1: The Wii turned out to look like it's fun
#2: Supports tons of old games
#3: The PS3's price was announced
