Why is drinking legal and smoking pot isn't?

From the looks of your previous post quoted here, you can't hold an intelligent conversation either. I am pro-legalization, but I am not stupid. Pot has just as much value as valium, alcohol, doritos, and religion.

Various drugs have been used in religious ceremonies for years. So what?

What good reasons does the government have for continuing the prohibition against drugs? I've outlined several reasons to legalize them in other threads in the past, but I have yet to see one good point as to why they should be illegal.

The real problem is that the government is voted on...for the people by the people. YOU elect the people that go to congress to pass bills. If it was so important....instead of always bitching, become proactive and find candidates who promote and back the legalization of MJ. THAT is when you'll actually make heads turn.

You and I both know that will never fly. Why? Because they would be ridiculed by the majority of the population. Why? Because pot smokers and people who are enjoy it so much they try to legalize it are the minority in this country.

• It would save around $50 Billion for the US by eliminating the "war on drugs."
• It would make the government (state or federal depending on how they did things) anywhere from $10million on up.
• Less crowded prisons.

• The price of drugs would plummet, so the "terrorists" (the government says buying drugs funds terrorism) would no longer have drugs as a source of income.

Uh... most high-potency pot is grown in the US and Canada. Most crappy pot is grown in America and Mexico. Columbia shifted from pot to coke and poppies during the early 70's. Afghanistan is poppies.
