Why is congress involved with MLB's problem with steroids?

MLB is a government-sanctioned monopoly, with antitrust exemptions, as the Supreme Court has ruled it a "national institution". As such, Congress has the right to interfere in its affairs when it sees the need to. This is the price that MLB has paid in order to have government protection from competition.

crap, I wasn't expecting to see a real answer to this one. I just was thinking that Congress panders to public opinion and coorporate sponsors so they would take on this in order to gain votes. I mean these are the same people who invented "freedom toast".
