Why is Civilizations so addictive?

I just started playing MicroProse's/Sid Meyer's game Civilizations again, and damn, its so addictive for a '95 era game. I suffer from this addiction at least once a year.

I suffer from the addiction I just wish it was multiplayer, then me and my brother could really see who is the best.

So, why is it so addictive and who else loves it and plays it regularly?

Never played it. i know that FF3 and most of the zelda games, dragon warrior, secret of mana, et al make me lose sleep.

I just got over a month or so of playing Civ 3. Wiped out the Egyptians in about 10 turns in the modern era with about 70 armor divisions. Blitzkreig > them

I know exactly how you feel. Civilization and Command & Conquer both do that to me.

DAMN YOU, NOW I WANT TO PLAY!!!!

<------- Furiously searches for Civ CD.............:brokenheart:

I can identify...
"Just one more turn"
"Okay, maybe ONE more"
"Oh, I'm almost done researching X, I'll just play 'til that's done"

nakedfrog, I think you got it, I keep going, "OK, I'll stop in 5 min to go to sleep" and then 3 hours later....!!!!

And as soon as that's done
"ah! the Romans are attacking! I'll just play till I've knocked them back"

Has Sid Meyer ever made a game that wasn't addicting?

Alpha Centuri? I played it for all of 5 minutes, uninstalled it and put it in the box of doomed CDs.

Are you kidding me? It was the illegitimate sequel to Civ, and it was every bit as addicting. So addicting, in fact, that the initials for Sid Maier's Alpha Centauri actually spell out SMAC.

LOL...my wife gets pissed when she sees me playing this game because she knows I'll be gone for a few days 😀

You can get Civilization II: Multiplayer Gold for cheap at Target or do a search online -- it's multiplayer, in the sense that you can setup connections to your friends via TCP/IP. My little brother (@ Italia) and I (@ USA) played via TCP/IP recently and it's loads of fun!

🙂
