medical reasons:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/phimosis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/paraphimosis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/zoon's_balanitis

and most the horrible that i have seen:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/balanitis_xerotica_obliterans

there is of course:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/penile_cancer

i have actually performed circumcisions on newborns and assisted on adolescent and adult circs.

They do have a medical need in certain situations.

The vast majority is either religious or to match dad. Its become part of our culture. Esp white christian.

Phimosis is particularly tough on adolescent boys because they start to notice it at the most awkward part of their life. It'd be a much more common occurrence if most boys weren't circ'ed as infants. Estimates are about 60% are circumcised in the us.

My personal position is whatever the fuck people want to do. There are tons of stupid ass things people do for no other reason than that is what everyone has always done.

If medicine has taught me anything its that people don't really want to be educated. And they sure as hell aren't going to believe what i say. Everyone already knows better than i do apparently.

gah!!!! Do not click links!!!

I'm divided on the issue. I personally like being circumcised, but that's all I have ever known. I probably be ok even if I wasn't. I don't think I will do it to my son though....

Click at your own risk. You can safely assume there will be dick pics. Incredibly high chance they will be diseased.

I did use the word horrible to describe one of them.

LMFAO! What risk?

I FEAR MY OWN BIOLOGY! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Sorry, I don't pander to cultural repression.

Hey dicks don't bother me. I've seen plenty of horrible things in my life and have made it thus far.

The rest of the US is another story though.

the news story of that lady injecting her 8 year old daughter got me thinking. she had her kid taken away for injecting her daughter, i agree with that. but the story my be a hoax anyway...

so my question is, how is not cutting off a part of a baby's penis not child abuse? how is that any different than a mother injecting her 8 year old with botox? other than one is permanent and the kid has no choice, the other is not permanent but again the kid has no choice.

One comes from a tradition, in an era where cleanliness isn't just godliness, its practical, the other is just cosmetics vanity!

One is done by a medical professional in a sterile hospital environment, with proper staff and facilities available in the event of a problem. The other is done by a cosmetologist in a private residence using supplies bought online.
