Saw a commercial on TV that brought this up: Text

Each article said "It was the tallest building until..." and linked to the following

Why is there a trend to built taller and bigger? Will it ever end? Will we have buildings a mile high? How long will that take?

Exactly. It's not like a bunch of guys are sitting around and decide to build something taller and immediately head to home depot. Each time a new height record is made, it is a HUGE achievement in both engineering and construction techniques. Until the next building breaks the record, the current record holder gets to sit back and say they have achieved something that no other man has ever done.
