why is beef jerky so expensive?

I noticed most of the places I occasionally order jerky are more expensive. Whittingtons is one of them. Nothing you can do really..just pay the extra dough or make jerky yourself.

3-6 lbs of meat to make 1 lb of beef jerky + seasoning + time = $26/lb!

1lb of raw meat = ~ 4oz of jerky

London Broil makes great jerky. London Broil = ~$5/lb

$20 for the raw meat + spices + prep = 1lb of jerky

$26/lb for prepared jerky is pretty decent.

I grind my own chuck, season and dry...fairly cheap. Not sure how much the chuck costs cuz it comes from the family farm.
