Why is anyone loooking forward to WAR?

They don't look realistic in the least. Matter of fact the world in general looks blocky and cartoony as well.

Its common knowledge that its a WoW clone, but the hope is that it will be a polished WoW clone.

As I've said before, WoW is ruining an entire generation of MMOs. We won't see anything good and original for another half decade.

Most all the stuff out there doesn't have the higher res textures and the lighting system isn't in place, those two things along can fix many graphic isssues for most. But in the end they had to keep it a bit more simplier simply cause of RvR. When you will have a few hundred people on screen on once nothing else is gonna matter.

You're an optomist. Given how bad TV is becoming, I envision an entertainment shift to MMOs. We're talking about people who watch reality TV, buying MMOs... I've lost all hope.

Nah, and it won't take a half decade for good and original MMOs to be released. They'll be released next year most likely, and Jumpgate: Evolution sounds like it might hit this year, and will probably be good. The issue is, people are looking for WOW-type play, which is going to be a problem for that games that are actually original and of great quality, because people won't want to switch. People are talking about switching to WAR from WoW, but I don't think we'll see that kind of mass exodus for the other upcoming games. NCsoft has a couple in the works that sound fantastic for what they are, like Aion or Blade & Soul.
So hopefully the good games can remain afloat after release, even if they don't get the attention that games like WoW - and likely WAR - receive.

Given how bad TV is becoming
There have been plenty of good TV shows in the last few years. Wolf Lake, FireFly, Farscape, the new (2005 and newer) Doctor Whos, Burn Notice, Dexter, Threshold, Rome, and Carnivale... just to name a few.
Isn't Bioware making a KOTOR MMORPG? That should own if that's the case.
Yep, and from what I have been reading, they are putting a heavy emphasis on having in depth and intriguing PvE quests / storylines.
The world in general looks blocky and cartoony as well.
Trade off, an MMO with Crysis graphics could not handle hundreds of people on the screen at once.

I said the same thing about the bulky & cartoonish characters in the WAR is coming in Sept. thread with videos. Not impressed. I was hoping for something much improved to get away from WoW after all this time. It would take a lot of rave reviews after release to get me to even consider putting effort into something seemingly similar.

.

Wait, did you just insult the old Doctor Who? I'll have you know that the old Doctor Who is still better than 90% of the stuff on TV today, including most of the shows you named there. 😛

Only things similar between WoW and WAR is their look. WoW is a PvE grind with mediocre PvP and WAR is all about RvR/PvP the entire game is based on huge battles and sieging keeps/cities. Since gear/skills is balanced around RvR all PvE is balanced around that, instead of trying to balance PvE and PvP and always fucking up like Blizz does in WoW.

Totally different types of games.

WoW PvP sucked big time,I don't know why some people think WoW is great becasue its not,I have played virtually every MMORPG out there,it can't hold a candle to SWG pre CU,getting back on topic I hope Warhammer does well, if not I'll be waiting again for the next big MMORPG and playing Stalker: Clear Sky in the meantime 🙂.

See bolded text, I did not think 196x - 1989 Dr. Who qualifies as being from the last few years.

Yeah, I don't get where people think it is good either. It was a total after thought. I remember back in WoW beta they weren't even going to have PvP servers till the community got them to change their minds on it. I'll give WoW some credit though, its PvE is among the best out there without a doubt.

graphic doesn't make a good game... case in point, Age of Conan, amazing graphic....but sadly that wasn't enough.

Typical mentality of gamers these days .

Who cares what the game play is like. I want to stare at pretty pictures, because that is all that is important in games.

As a developer friend put it.
Develop the game with a engine that is very basic , low quality, but is easy to prototype. If the game is fun to play like that, then add all the flashy stuff. That is when you know you have a hit.

For me the appeal of War, (this is a hope, as I haven't played closed beta and have not gotten my open beta code email yet :/ ), is that it may have good quality pvp. And that the rvr is well implemented as well, a la original DaOC. WoW pvp is not only stale, it's far, far too easy. I enjoyed wow, played it since day one and even came back to play it again after TBC came out, but after you've gotten max level a few times over and done some raiding, there is nothing more to it.

Oh hey, new wow xpac is coming, so um, 10 more levels of the exact same kind of quests, then you're max level with 5,000,000 reps to grind for some pointless reason and then more raiding that is similar to the raiding you did before, but with new avatars for the monsters you are killing. Pvp is the only place I find new and constantly shifting content in mmos, and wow's pvp is total rubbish. It's far too easy and too much of a grind. Arenas are a joke, and bgs were fun for a while until they turned them into yet another grind, and failed to keep delivering new content in terms of BGs. The arena system is meh, and is subject to nothing but cookie cutter makeups and repetition and is exploited anyways.

So for me the hope is war really delivers on being a quality pvp game, and it's the reason I'm looking forward to it and willing to try out another mmo. I played conan, got a ToS to 70 and a Conq to 60ish. Nice looking game, terrible awful gameplay. Hopefully war delivers.
