The one thing I learned about adults, as I became one, is that most adults are just children with bank accounts. Most people never grow up and most adults and just as immature, irresponsible, and whiny as children.

Experience and wisdom come with age making them superior.

but after a while you become adamant and stubborn and useless, there is a reason for setting retirement age, after that you should only be an adviser and not making major decisions. Just look at what Nancy W Pelosi and Harry P Reid did...

Experience and wisdom come with age making them superior.

Older people do have a few wise points to make.

But they are not superior and older people of today are often a product of the backwards societies they grew up in.

It wasn't until about 30 years ago did society and culture really move out of it's ignorant state of racism, paranoia, war mongering, blind obedience, and useless tradition.

To answer the OP's title, it is not.
Superiority comes when people prove their worth.

The people who do insist on it are usually ignorant which is why a lot of them are kids.

They grew up in the baby boomer generation. It isn't so much age as it is money. They lived through a time of greater economic prosperity and they have more power than our generation.

because youth is pure and not yet jaded, therefore superior. furthermore, due to an unexplained biological miracle, at a certain age, around 18-21, they are blessed with the knowledge of everything. as they age, they no longer know everything. clear logic: someone who knows everything >>>> someone who does not know everything.

Generally speaking, for the last 100 years or so, each preceeding generation has had to do more with less. We have ALL gotten lazier (on average) than our parents and their parents before them.

General respect comes from experience. There are a few fields where this does not matter, but many (Engineering being one of them, pick your own subdivision thereof), that benefit greatly from someone who has seen enough steel connections that just looking at one in the field is enough for them to say "hey, that thing might break!" (AND be right).

Does this mean that old folks are Gods? Not as much as in days of old where the only place for a LOT of knowledge was inside the head (or bookshelf) of the old guy in the village, but it still holds some clout.

There is a fine balance and interplay between knowledge, intelligence and imagination. You lack any one and you can be good at what you do, but not great. Lack two and you become a pencil pusher in your own respective field.

When a smart guy grows older and is still willing to learn more AND has a spark of creativity up inside the cranial cavity, he is definitely better than the young know-it-all fresh on the field.

But, one more thingto keep in mind. A Porche may be better than a BMW, but I would not turn down either if offered to me.

Good question. I don't think it's fair. In many instances, older people tend to be bitter, one minded, judgemental, and old fashioned. Because of this, many Presidents in the past have screwed up. God help me I am not that way when I get to a certain age.
