Why is adding the word "house" to a word considered a putdown? Examples inside:

House dressing

When I hear someone add house to a word thinking its some sort of put down, It makes my eyes go "". Ninja please.

Do you agree?

I know exactly what you're talking about. I think it's a "put down" as you say because it implies some "do it yourself" mentality. Rather than using a name brand, you're using a generic brand. Rather than using a known dressing, you're using a house dressing.

I wouldn't consider it a put down though. Depending on where you're going, "house" can mean premier, special or the best.
