Why is a vote for Nadar a vote out the window?

It does influence something, it takes votes away from democrats. A vote for Nader is equivalent to a vote for Bush.

I know he isnt going to win, but that wont stop me.

Because he can't win and even the Green Party thinks he is a nut now. They won;t allow him to even run on their ticket

Did you know that a good bit of registered republicans voted for Nader too? It is a fact that Nadar didnt cause Gore to lose, it was Gore himself. He was nothing special and thats why he lost.

Don't start this...the last election was a sham - the Supreme Court decided it. I want to move on.

If enough people vote for Charles Manson, he could win too. Point is, neither one's going to happen.

Nader is too far to an extreme to have a chance at winning. To be a 3rd party candidate with a chance to win, you have to bridge the gaps in the parties. Ross Perot probably came as close as anyone will.

I will never vote for someone who single handedly lowered fuel economy for the entire united states, or thought he knew what he was talking about when he said the Corvair was unsafe at any speed.

PS: this should probably be in P&N.

I didn't start anything, nor do I want to. I don't care about the last election, but if Gore had been that much better of a candidate, Florida wouldn't have been an issue. He would have won straight out.

Same could be argued that your one vote won't influcen anything. But we all vote anyway. Perhaps something would happen.

This election is a referendum on Bush. He got his chance and f'd just about everything up. Voting for Nader doesn't hold Bush responsible as Nader can't beat Bush.

Florida was the state people looked at only because the media identified it as such, and the media singled out Florida because Jeb Bush was governor.

If you look at reports of voting irregularities and potential voting authority misconduct there are a few states which were worse, in particular New Mexico. The State Police actually shut down polling places in some of the so-called "minority" districts early, before most voters in the district had time to get there after work. And that's just the tip of it.

Anyway, I believe there was a survey taken of people who voted for Nader, which asked them if only given the choice of the two "lead" candidates which one would they choose. A majority answered that they would have voted for Gore.

The only thing your vote influences if you vote for Nader is people's opinions that a third party candidate can never have a chance of winning the presidency. If Nader got enough votes, people might actually believe a third party candidate would have a chance. Then again, Ross Perot got plenty of votes and still nobody believes a third party candidate could win. So really, voting for Nader is just taking votes away from whomever you would have voted for if he wasn't running.

Because the majority of the people in this country have been indoctrined into the party system and can no longer true think for themselves. Instead of seeing that you can and should vote for whomever you feel is best, these people think you should only be allowed to vote for the two parties and any vote outside of the two parties is 'stealing'. To those that haven't been brainwashed into the party system, this line of thinking is absurd.

I live in California. It doesn't matter at all who I vote for for president. The democratic candidate will will regardless of whether I vote republican, democrat, or independent.

I'll bet anyone $100 that John Kerry wins California in November.

Bleh, Gore didn't even win his own state. That should be a requirement to winning the Presidency. And I can't believe people are still whining conspiracy theory over the last Presidential election. Get over it and make your vote count in November.

or he could have won his home state of tenneesee, with their 11 electoral votes, and florida definitely wouldn't have been an issue.

Yep. Hence I voted for Nader last time around. I figure the least good it could do was make a 3rd party more feasible.
