Why is a P4 Xeon 2.8 GHz taking over 12 hours per WU?

Are you running the screensaver version?

If not are you sure you've turned ANY screensavers off?

Make sure a different application hasn't "locked up" taking most of you cpu resources.

If those are clean post again and I'm sure we can get it resolved 😀

You could try downloading aida32 and be sure that your system CPU, memory etc are running at the speeds they are supposed to.

Something is definitely wrong!

Even my own Xeon rig - Dual p2-400(2meg cache) can crank out a WU in just under 12 hours per processor. 😉

I agree, something is wrong somewhere, my dual PII450mhz, 512K cache, does a 0.417 WU in about 13 hours.

Are you Overclocking the thing?

Are you Overclocking the thing?

Overclocking is punishable by death here so no! :Q

The processor is running at that speed for sure. I used the system as a desktop for several days and it flies.

Perhaps the boys were right!

are you running through a setiQ? Not that it'd help much but i'm curious as to the consistancy of the times for that machine.

Maybe you're running a different client version than what's optimal for your platform. Generally we would recommend the i386-winnt-cmdline.exe version found down the page a ways here, assuming you run a Windows operating system.

edit: I should add that most people would use SETIDriver to run two or four instances of the aforementioned client at the same time, depending whether you're utilizing Hyperthreading or not. More details on setting that up at teamanandtech.com.

Yeah, be sure that you aren't running the GUI (Screensaver) version, as that bites! 😉

Grab the i386-winnt-cmdline from here, and SetiDriver from here (hosted on my web server, as I think the main SetiDriver page is down), and set it up to use as many processes as you have processors 🙂 (IE 2 for one CPU with HT, 4 for 2 with HT etc) 🙂
