Why is 512mb DDR Ram so expensive?

I was looking at Ram prices on Price Watch and was wondering why Ram jumps so much in price going from 256mb to 512mb? I was looking at DDR Ram by the way. With so many of the new DDR boards being limited to two Ram slots and OS's requiring more Ram all the time the 512mb Ram may be necessary before long.

Supply and demand.
More 128/256mb modules are sold over 512mb modules..

Also, I believe 512MB RAM uses denser memory chips which probably have lower yields than less dense chips.

well...i think it's more on the supply side than demand. There are just less 512MB made right now. It will get cheaper dramatictly when people start buy them and manufactures start making more of them. Like in taiwan, 512 is already less than $100 us. It will get cheap here too....
