why intel motherboards?

i will be replacing my current motherboard socket 478. i will most likely purchase the asus p4p800-e, however, i would like some opinions on intel boards. are intel boards more reliable? are there any reasons why i should choose a intel brand board over other brands?

Depending on the application some chipsets are more desirable than others!!

Such as gaming!!

I have had no issues with Intel chipsets for gaming pirposes!!

Intel chipsets usually perform better from that specific generation than others from say VIA, ALI and SiS

Usually the bios prevents you from overclocking (to a certain degree) but they are known for stability and a first class warranty. I only use them in "business" builds.

Intel motherboards usually have great stability, with little in the way of standout performance, meaning average at best.

If you're in the situation where stability means more than performance and featureset, Intel over others like ASUS would probably be good. That said though, ASUS and ABIT are usually very good for stability as well, as long as they aren't using certain VIA chipsets. (VIA has a bad record in the past for making bad southbridges mostly).

I personally, never used an Intel motherboard with my past Intel machines (I only use AMD lately). Some of my past systems still used Intel chipsets (like the E7205 "Granite Bay") but in ASUS motherboards, because they usually offered more features.

That makes no sense. Why get a featureless Intel board over an Asus when ALL socket 478 boards with the Intel logo are MADE BY ASUS!!! It will not be any more stable than an ASUS if IT IS MADE BY ASUS!

Is this the case now? Wasn't the case the last time I bought Intel systems I don't think... oh well.

Asus has built ALL of Intels boards up until the end of this year when their contract runs out and Intel does not plan to renew (for unknown reasons to me at this time). It has been that way for 15 years or so.

Well, Intel-branded boards are made by not only ASUS, but also few others -- FIC and ECS are also two of them. That's one thing if anyone cares.

Intel-branded boards are known as very stable -- but you should not forget the facts that Intel-branded boards have no option for OC, just like Dell. I bet majority of mobos are stable@stock unless it's built by some crappy company using crappy parts.

That just is NOT true at all!! ASUS was the only maker of mobo`s for Intel!!!

FIC doesn't even make their own motherboards much less Intel boards. FIC are rebadged boards from other companies, just like their Chameleon or whatever it was was just an Epox 8rda+. ECS has made boards for FIC and so has MSI.
ECS currently make Abits lower end boards to take the load off of Abit, but they have never made Intel boards....only Asus has.

If you want reliablity it's hard to beat Tyan. Built many for business and never had a problem.
Asus, and thus Intel has slipped in the last few years.

Pure Intel motherboard is highly recommended. Straight from Intel, better product, better support, and rock solid stability over its side vendors.
