Why in the world would someone pay $1030 for a cpu?

Seriously WTF, why would someone want to buy a 6 core processor for $1030 (i7-990x), when there is an 8 core cpu from amd for $270? I want to empathisze i am not comparing cpu brands, simply pointing out a 6 core processor is almost 5 times as much as an 8 core cpu.... What are the benefits of a $1030 cpu?

That 8120 8 core cpu is just 4 cores running some sort of Hyperthreading. :whiste:

Also, AMD CPU's burn easily. :awe:

People have some crazy ideas. Some people think they need to spend over a thousand dollars on a CPU. Other people think that the Patriots could win the Super Bowl.
 
Why would ANYONE ANYWHERE want a supercar? A properly maintained 1993 Toyota can get you anywhere that's paved for fractions less.

Some people make more money than you can even imagine. There are products made for every price point, if you don't offer products for certain tiers, you are missing out on a section of the market. It's bad business to not capitalize on it. Who cares what makes sense to you?
