Why in the hell do I get this message when trying to delete files??

I notice ALOT when I try and delete certian files in Wndows 2000 I get the following message: Cannot delete (File Name): There has been a sharing violation.

The source or destination file mught be in use? NOT
This is getting VERY annoying, please help.

By chance, are these in your TEMP directory? I get that too (on NT) and I have to reboot before those files can be deleted.

kranky your right on the money I believe.
I D/L to a Temp directory then copy or cut to the location I want. It does seem after I reboot I can then delete the file or folder. But wonder why this is. Very annoying.

I think it's that the file appears to be "in use" by the application (browser) that you used to D/L the file. The browser's not really using it, but Windows still thinks it is.

You might try shutting down your browser and then see if you can delete the file(s).

I get this too and I agree that it's bloody annoying.

It doesn't seem to be linked to any particular application. It's almost as if Windows Explorer is keeping hold of the file/directory. Only a reboot seems to fix.

it's because the OS is using these files. You can delete internet explorer if you are browsing with it. Anyways try rebooting and then deleting.

I get this with files I didn't even download with Internet Explorer. It must be a bug of some kind.
