Why in the heck won't my desktop icons stay put?

Why in the heck won't my desktop icons stay put?

I arrange them then I line them up but each time I reboot they move. It kinda looks like the ones near the bottom of the screen drop a little lower each reboot and eventually they end up at the top of the screen (wrap around)...any ideas what could be causing this or how to remedy it?

I have Win98SE, IE 5.0.

I asked this same question about a year ago. Searched, and searched, and searched.... could not find anything on how to remedy it..... Even one of those 'Icon snaoshot' programs..... NOTHING fixed it......
I Lived with it for about a month, and finally re-formatted when I got my new Motherboard, and that sure fixed it!

Is auto-arrange turned on?

Sometimes when you don't shut down correctly due to a crash the icons become messed up like yousay.

turn off auto arrange and make sure you settings are saved when you shut down. it should work then

I already have "Auto Arrange" turned off...

Where do I choose 'save settings' at?

Try running msconfig and selecting the option to disable fast shutdown. That will make sure that everything gets saved properly.
