Do you think that if the Army was trying to secure South Central LA, they wouldn't be losing a person a night? What if they tried to secure every big city in the US?

Yes, it is horrible that we are losing so many soldiers, but all things considered, I'm suprised its so little.

Edit: post title clarified based on suggestions below. I really do care about our soldiers.

Whilst you may have apoint, I think you're post title comes across as a bit heartless.

Maybe you could replace 'Why I don't care' with 'Why it doesn't surprise me'.

I agree Fencer....there is a difference between believing the soldier's deaths is a necessary sacrifice, and not caring about their loss.

Or even further, that they are dying for an unnecessary cause does not mean not caring about them either.

ScienceWhiz. The problem, in my opinion, is that if we were patrolling major U.S. cities, there might be some point to it. We inserted ourselves in Iraq for our own purposes. (If you're going to do that "free the people" nonsense, why not go to Korea or the Congo?) We're bucking a 200 year trend of dumping colonialism. Again, in my opinion, the our soldiers are dying for no good purpose. When we leave, Iraq will still be Iraq.
