I got mine on Wednesday :) got to run it in though so no hard acceleration just yet :(

hope you guys have experience.... cause an R1 or even an R6 is NOT a beginner bike.

Damnit, I know Mnementh has experience, but stop preaching. Everytime there is a thread about Motorcycles, everyone has to chime in "OMG, YOU ARE GONNA KILL YOURSELF" ..or "YOU WONT BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE POWER". Until you know they are some dipsh!t, why bother?

I do it because i have seen my share of crashes among friends and acquaintances. Some deaths too.. all because ppl with no experience get on high powered motorcycles.

I wouldn't even worry about it man. There's three types of motorcycle buyers: the ones that know what they're getting into since they've been riding since the stoneage and just want to try something new(I happen to be in this category), the ones who talk out talk out their ass that they're gonna buy one and never do(most of the people), and the ones that have more money than brains and will buy one no matter what ANYONE says(even their significant other or family). The first two are safe, and the third isn't worth your time. So just sit back and let Darwin take care of them, and wreck our insurance premiums in the process, cuz there's nothing we can do. :(

Damn that looks sweet, but I would kill myself on a motorcycle, I wreck enough on bikes, and I only go (max) 35 or so. Got a nice scar from cornering too hard on sandy pavement down a hill at the end of a ride, looks cool tho :D

If I got one it would be a harley or a harley wanna be. I like the BMW bikes for their engineering too.

WARNING: THAT PICTURE IS VERY, VERY NASTY. DO NOT CLICK UNLESS YOU HAVE A STRONG STOMACH.

That isn't even from a motorcycle accident. I've heard it's some guy who was holding a blasting cap in his mouth or some other explosive device and it went off. Nothing to do with bikes, and a helmetless accident couldn't cause that type of accident anyways.

How's your new bike treating you Mnementh? Did you get an '04?

Eh, I just did a Google search for "motorcycle+accident" and that's what came up.

My point wasn't to say "OMG MOTORCYCLE=DEATH", it's just that people who get motorcycles should be aware that they ARE a risky hobby, and you should wear your helmet+leathers at ALL times.

Why you DONT want a motorcycle. Beware, this pic is pretty gruesome and I myself wouldn't recommend looking at it. But unlike the pic above this IS from a motorcycle accident.

I have a friend who's been in bed for the past month who could give you some good reasons not to get a motorcycle. He should be on crutches by the end of the summer.

If you do get one, be careful on it.

All those motorcycle gross-out pics are of people who don't wear helmets. Those are Darwin Award nominees by default.

Damn, I'd be happy with a fuel gauge on mine

I mean really, who wants to worry about petty things like how much gas you have left

Yeah I got an 04 :) Literally all I've done so far is ridden it home from the dealers (about 1.5 miles) I was hoping to take it out this weekend for a rideout to start running it in but the weather has been abysmal and I have to admit I didn't want to get it wet heh, she's still too new and shiny for that yet :)

I'm keeping my GSX-R 600 for another few months (for the daily commute to work) while I run this one in so she's only gonna come out at weekends for a bit, tbh if I can afford it I'm gonna keep the gixxer for that purpose and save the R1, I don't really want to put commute miles on her if I can avoid it, so yes I'm sorry to say it but I hope she's just gonna be a weekendd toy :)

And for all those people who have been coming on with comments about experience and squids (though I only found out what one was the other day heh, thought it was something else...) I have been riding for a long time and I ALWAYS wear my leathers and a helmet and a back protector so please don't insult my intelligence or that of a lot of other riders who frequent these boards, we know the risks of our choice of transport/hobby and don't need to be preached at by people who've never ridden in their lives and obviously know nothing about what they are talking about... I take every precaution possible when I ride and I know my own limits and never try to exceed them

I truly hope that's not your first bike...

You don't give some of these people enough credit. It probably is not his first. It seems that most on here who talk about bikes, or who have one, arent the usual squid.

Why would I give them credit? 1) I don't know them. 2) How often do you hear "I'm thinking of getting a bike. How's this Ninja 250?". Answer: Almost never. Usually it's:

"Dude, I'm getting a freaking Busa/R1, ZX12R etc"
"Have you ever riden before"
"No. But that bike's so fvcking tight."

I'll start giving people credit when the majority of new riders I talk to aren't morons. I know I probably would have been in a world of sh!t if I'd started out on a liter bike.

cars can be just as graphic...but nice way to show the affects of the possibilities.

Perhaps living in a cave in the dark like a mushroom is more your speed. As long as it has DSL or better eh?

Having fun hurts sometimes. Scars scars scars.

I'm saddened by this thread. NO ONE seems to appreciate the 15,500 RPM redline, which is why I posted it. Instead it turned into the usual AT bike thread with the same old topics rehashed a thousand times.

No I do not have a bike. Yes I do talk like I'm going to buy one someday. No I wouldn't buy a Hayabusa or R6. Any old run of the mill used sport bike would be plenty fast for me.

*edit* And the GT2 is horribly overpriced for what you get.

True but wearing a helmet still doesn't compensate for the fact that the rest of your body is completely unprotected. I actually own a motorcycle myself but hardly ever drive it and when I do I make sure I'm doing everything in my power to be safe, but the point is you just can't account for other drivers who often have a hard time spotting motorcyclists.

Hey, you see one ridiculously high redline, you've seen em all. ;)
My 9R bangs the limiter at about 13K, and up there you can't help but feel pity for everything mechanical below you. Unless you're on a track, I can't see a reason to be anywhere near 5 digit revs for more than a short spurt once a week. Although, on a 600 it's alot easier to do without scaring yourself. :)

If you're interested in motorcycle mechanical ability, look into some of the early 80s Hondas. I believe there was a production bike back then that redlined up around 18K, and was taken well over 20-22K when it was used in production racing.

I just opened my motor up this weekend to do my annual valve adjustment, and the stuff in there hardly looks extraordinary, but it's what it sounds like and can do that makes you really appreciate it.

I think he was trying to wire up an explosive, and was trying to cut it with his teeth or something. It's not like he was just standing there with it hanging out like a cigarette. :)

If I had more $$$ I'd get a Ducati Monster 600 for a while, then go up to one of these.
I know it's a bit old, but the 996 was torquier than the 998, looks better than the 999, and sounds like thunder.

I get a blank page. Edit: N/M works now.

Anyway, "a bit old" does not matter. Ducks are nice bikes. My only problem with them is QC. If you get one that has been around, it probably has had all the bugs worked out, like old Jags.

Great choice :D
