Why i think Crysis sucks

Crysis == OVERRATED.

Yes, Antialiasing in Crysis is bad also.

Gameplay...well we all know..nothing to be overly excited over.

What surpises me most is that textures in Crysis can look very, very outdated..i have seen better textures in HL2 DM than some in Crysis.
Of course i run everything on high!

Crysis might have good game physics...it has "nice" foliage and some nice hints here and there - but overall its VERY overrated and i actually dont think that the hardware demands and playability of crysis is balanced out with what's actually seen on the screen. For a game running 40FPS on a high-end rig it could do and look better!
I think its very inefficient and BUGGY.

Why is it BUGGY?

Ever wondered why everytime when you get shot something "weird" happens with the graphics..i cant explain, but i am sure you all know what i mean. This almost looks like an engine bug to me...its like for a fraction of a second the graphics get all weird and ugly looking. Why this happens, i dont know.

Sometimes i see bigger glitches, like pixelization/checkerboard flashing

Sound: Can be totally messed up, depending on soundcard. On the audigy i have crackling so i needed to use my onbaord RealTek just to get clean sound.

Another bug was that the game slowed down (at least in PRE patch 1.2, i dont know if it still happens with the new patch)...eg. you had 50FPS or something. Then someone fired a shot...and all of a sudden FPS were reduced to 20-30 and stayed low. I could resproduce this running vaious benchies and tests. Some sound-event triggered a massive slow down in FPS.

Some situation just look like ****, or like a huge graphics bug. Eg. driving a vehicle, looking out the window.

Etc..etc...list goes on.

Its just overrated.

Flexy, most of your problems sound like they?re driver and/or system issues.

Are you overclocking anything? Do you have the latest drivers for your video card?

I just started finally playing this game last week and it's nothing spectacular or anything but I don't see any graphical glitches. Everything looks nice the whole time. The game is both far from being a dud as well as revolutionary.

Don't bash a game because your having problems running it.

Sometimes i see bigger glitches, like pixelization/checkerboard flashing

Are you OCing or modding your video card in any way?

I love it when people complain about a game due to personal issues. OP loses.

Sounds like a lot of these problems stem from OS/game not being updated or legit.

Skace has nicely verbalized what I was thinking while reading the OP's post. For the record, I found Crysis fun, but not a mind blowing experience.

Edit: I suck at the grammar. :p

Eh whatever. I was playing yesterday without issues. I was digging the physics and having a good time with the game. I thought it was kool that I could shoot out individual tires on vehicles (no it doesn't take much to entertain me ;) ) and when I was tying to take cover inside a shack and it collapsed on top of me during the fighting I was pretty surprised. :)

OP I think you should look at possible causes for your issues. Try the following:

1. If you are overclocking anything, stop. The pixelation/checkerboarding sounds as if it could be due to overheating or stress on your hardware. If you are not overclocking then check your temps and or airflow to ensure nothing is overheating.

2. Lowering your settings. This may be causing some of the glitches, particularly if you have AA turned on. I have encountered similar problems in the past with different games, that have been resolved with a slight graphical adjustment.

3. Update all of your drivers. Self-explanatory I think.

It sounds as if your opinion of the game may be clouded by the issues you are encountering, so maybe if you are able to eliminate those issues you may garner more enjoyment from actually playing the game.

Good luck!

Fair enough, but it appears the OP has been unable to get an accurate depiction of the game with the issues he is currently having, which was the point I was getting at, not that I think the game will be gangbusters for him just because it is no longer glitching.

Agreed. COD4's campaign was gripping and fun. Crysis got a little bit repetitive, though I though the storyline really picked up at the end of the game. I will buy the sequel.

COD4 lasted about 6-7 hours. By hour 11-12 it would have been repetetive too. I never even bothered finishing COD2.

I played thru Crysis twice and just kept trying different ways to get from A to B. Trail over the mountain or follow the road or steal a boat and snipe from the water. Go invisible or superspeed. The suit + weapon customizing + non-linearish maps = more variety than COD. I liked COD also, but I liked Crysis more. At least up until the mothership/battleship sequence, which they could have left out.

True, sirjonk. The other night I found it fun to go invisible and swim around and reappear behind the enemies, take a few potshots and swim away, etc. I like how you can take various routes, use/ditch vehicles at will, etc, and can either plow your way through someplace with a truck or crawl into it stealthily. I know, i know, this is nothing really that new or innovative but it's still pretty fun.

Too bad we have to wait forever for the next GTA.

i will try to make a fraps video/screen shots in a few. I will also set my whole system to stock speed, even if i already did this since overclocking issue was the first thing coming to mind. But i remember testing this once already and i had the same thing happen at stock settings.

Btw. the graphics glitches are not affecting the gameplay, rather the "FPS drops" issue...

BFG: i am also guessing it might rather be a driver issue (or game engine issue noone ever noticed ???)..i had the latest official Vista 43 WHQL 169.25 earlier with the same glitches, and now i am running 174.14
Yes i am playing on "high"...Crysis also would auto-set me on "high". Ironic also that the shadows look very pixelated and ugly, thats another criticism i have.
I might have time in a few and can do some screenies what i am talking about.

i did all tests now with stock speeds. So its NOT an overclock issue.

The one issue i am talking about:

Small video where i get shot at

Here two screenshots

moment before he shoots:

i am hit, pic becomes distorted

Notice how picture becomes gray-ish...and there are color-fringes and everything just starts looking "weird".

I dont know if this is supposed to be like it....or some buggy DX10 effect who just turned out wrong.
The pics itself dont look like much - but in game i think its "disturbing" game play since i dont understand what the effect is supposed to be and it somehow interrupts a fluent game-experience. Every time you get shot this weird behavior for a fraction of a second.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to do that, because I remember it doing it to me, i think.

I think it is supposed to be your shields getting hit. I find it annoying as hell to.
