Why I love a Modded Xbox

XBMC (Xbox Media Center)

Can watch all my Anime, DVD's, etc. on it. And don't even have to use ffdshow to make it look better

Me=🙂

How did you mod it? Modchip or softmod? I'm thinking about buying an Xbox to use basically as a media player.

I still want a pre-modded xbox. XBMC + Emulators + a hard drive full of NES/SNES ROMS = heaven.

They are still not cheap, however. 🙁

I softmodded mine, plays everything I have on my PC (over the network) with no issues. Just installed XBMC and everything worked, couldn't have been much easier.

What are the disadvantages of softmodding?

Awesome, you have a machine in your house that plays videos. That's so cool, I wish I had one.

Exactly my thoughts notfred. Tel em what your new Power Mac Book Pro Power Elite Black Edition can do with FRONT ROW!

I used a modchip. Xecuter 3 when it came out.

I hate the Solderless ones, and soldered it myself. It was really easy.

Probably the best $50 investment I could have ever made.

Even if I had one, how would it be relevant? He said "My XBOX is Awesome, it plays anime!"

Yeah, so does my PC, and everyone else's PC, and everyone's DVD player, and a million other electronic gadgets that can decode MPEG video. I don't see what about that makes an XBOX so special.

Hey notfred. I can leave my work early too. I don't what makes you think your job is so special that you feel the need to post about it.

It's just the convenience. People who have an Xbox likely have them in their entertainment centers. So if it's networked you can basically just stream any videos from your PC to the XBox and it will play them on your TV. Great for people who don't have HTPCs and no need to burn discs to play in home DVD players. It basically serves the same function as those media extenders while also doubling as a gaming console.

Meh, sold my chipped xbox to get my DS Lite and haven't missed it.

But have a Divx DVD player so that's all I need.

So for about $150 you can make a pc or buy another machine that can play everything off the hdd or over a network not to mention all the games a xbox will play that a low end pc will not for the life of it (BF2 comes to mind) and because your games are on the hdd will never get scratched or have to load some drive emulator and find no cd patches and pray you dont get a virus?

I think notfred is missing the big convenience factor here. The XBOX can serve as your one-stop shop for all your entertainment needs. It's nice to be able to have one unit do it all, instead of a separate component for each service. That being said, I personally am a video/audiophile and the XBOX just doesn't cut it for me as a media player.

Xbox > HTPC IMO, unless you want some PVR deal

Xbox games, movies/music (streamed, hard drive, or from discs), and emulators. In a small, less-power hungry, and quiet box. For much cheaper than a decent HTPC would be. And there's useless stuff like the web browser, and linux. 😀

Then why are you taking the time to not only observe but contribute in the discussion?

Can a Modded XBOX connect to the internet?

If so, can it stream audio to your HT system, websites like Shoutcast and the like?
