I'm still mad at Sony for their slow production of the PS2 when it came out. I think they intentionally kept the supplies limited to increase demand. By the time I was actually able to get one I already had an X-box.

I'm sorta done on consoles. I'm a PC gamer now. :p

I think it's going to fail because it's price point and late delivery are both going to piss off the developers enough to make the xbox 360 the darling of game makers. All this talk of sony's overwhelming market share is pretty stupid, imho. Atari had near 100% market share at one point, which evaporated almost overnight. Sony's low inventory, too complicated hardware setup and exorbitant price makes it waaaay too hard for developers to make decent $$$. It makes more sense for them to make an xbox 360 game and maybe port it to the wii and/or pc.

also PS3 price per game will be in the 70-100$ a game range according to a sony VP so for less than 3 PS3 games u could buy a Wii

also another thing that totally just killed PS3 is that Assasins Creed was annouced for the 360
....and GTA 4 launching on both consols @ same time hurt em a bit(my bought a 360 after i told him that)

well do you think microsoft would officially announce a price drop ever? all that would do is slow down sales till the price drop, so of course they are going to deny any price drop.

noob.

Agreed. Not saying it *will* happen, but you must be a pretty big noob to not know that.

i paid $320 for mine so y would i care about a 50$ price drop?

All they announced was that they ABSOLUTLY WILL NOT DROP the price this holiday season
so maybe early next year they will but with PS3's expected failure combined with their already announced low # of PS3's available microsoft has no reason to drop their price
....unless the Wii outsells everyone expectations but microsoft seems more focused on taking sony out of the gaming market than taking nintendo out

meh...good points OP...but i hope it DOESNT fail because others have said, competition is good...always has been in this industry and others...so yeah...

And i'll be buying a 360 next year, AND a wii, and probably not the ps3 unless it drops in price or somehow comes up with amazing games (not graphics)

Nintendo also announced that they ABSOLUTLY WOULD NOT RELEASE a re-design of the DS only a few weeks before the DS Lite dropped in Japan.

I'm just sayin....;)

Didn't they states ages ago that it was it was infact a render but it wasn't pre-redered. The PS3 was rendering it right in front of them? Was a test for the cell processor no?

again ... why would MS announce a price drop months before it happens. All it would do is slow down sales until the drop comes.

And I paid absolutely $0 for my Xbox360, so I don't care either about the price drop :p

This is just how it is when consoles are released. It probably settle down until at least a few months after the PS3 is out.

Hasn't Nintendo even basically said that with their price point, they're really looking to be an additional console instead of a primary console?

No, they hope that with that price point you'll end up buying one no matter what, giving Nintendo the largest market share.

"Primary" and "additional" is determined by use of said console - not price or power.

All kinds of companies try underhanded things like that, even if they are market leaders.

Example, Ford.

Everyone knows that the F-series is the best selling truck, I mean, there is not even discussion on this. Ford knows this too, but one ford dealership out west was coerced by the parent company to take photographs of a toyota plant being built which was close by. Why? Because the toyota dealership's construction was done using Ford F-series trucks, and they would hang the pictures up in the dealership to show customers even the competition uses their trucks.

However, that is underhanded in more than one way, because it's not toyota building the dealership with fords, it's the construction workers who currently owned fords and came to the toyota job site with them. Totally coincedental, but they used it anyway.

I don't like Sony as a company, that is why i wont be buying a PS3 (that and the price tag)

are they still going to have their games licensed, I heard a while ago that you wont be buying the game, you'll be buying the rights to play the game

It's hilarious to see Nintendo fanboys spout the bs about not being a real gamer if you don't like Nintendo yada yada yada. I grew up on Nintendo and have become sick of them and their whoring ways.

You can play Blu-Ray on it. That's cheap for a Blu-Ray player. Do you even remember how much DVD players used to cost when they first came out?

But where is the non-BR version? I would consider one if I could pay $400 without blu-ray. I'm an HD-DVD backer so the fact that Sony is forcing me to pay them for their standard is the main reason I will never have a PS3.

Yeah, but at that time DVD was pretty well established as THE format. Not so this time around.

I thought their games were gonna be on BR discs so a non BR version would probably be just a suped up PS2

But the fact is that they could have gone with DVDs and chose to go with BR because they saw it as a way to gain competitive advantage over HD-DVD. I do not fault their position from the Sony corporate position but I refuse to pay a premium on the console because they decided to force any PS3 owners to be BR adopters.
