When was the last time Sony made anything worth buying? Honestly, why anyone would ever buy anthing Sony makes is something I just can't understand.

Why the  ? Exploding batteries, rootkits, digicams with bad CCDs that use the more expensive memory stick format?

Forgot to mention, but the PS3 plans to heavily use DRM technology so that as soon as you put in the disc, it will contact a server (yes, that means it requires internet access) and create a unique identifier or read off a unique idenitfier. Basically it will try (and may even succeed) in eliminating game rentals or reselling of PS3 games. :|

That's because we don't so much buy the game, as a licence to play that game. I agree that that's really, really crappy of Sony to pounce on, but as far as I know, it is technically accurate.

See as much as I hate the PS3 (owned PS1 and PS2, never an XBOX) it's going to have MGS4, and GT5. That is a real problem for me, as I want those games. A lot.

Well, I got an Xbox 360 a couple weeks after it came out and that was THE biggest mistake I have ever made in my life (and I've done some stupid stuff). There isn't even ONE game that is a "killer app" for that system. It's utter garbage. At least with the PS3 I know at the very, very least MGS4 will rock. Not that one game is worth a system, but 0 games makes a system 100% worthless...

Wii ftw.

As big of a "killer app" as the craptastic Halo 2?

Edit: But yeah GoW looks amazing.

Look, I know halo 2 sucked more then anyone (I was extremely dissapointed with the campaign, but at least the online was pretty damn good) But if halo 3 can have the campaign of halo 1 with the multiplayer of halo 2 (just make the game more streamlined like FEAR and BF2, take the fvckin gay sword and melee lunge out) Then this could very well be the greatest game EVER CREATED Muhuhahaahahahaha

but jokes aside, I have faith in Halo 3, it could just be wishfull thinking, but I hope they do halo 1 justice with the final game.

By the way, if sony/microsoft/nintendo focused more on creating killer app games rather then alot of worthless crap app games, I think that would do everyone some good, win-win situation for everyone.

I'd personally like to see them fail due to their shameful attempt to corner the market on blu-ray drives by forcing the customer to have it. MS did something similar with IE and Windows, but at least IE didn't add $300 to the price of the OS.

Have you even looked at the Wii? (no pun intended) I think this stigma attached to Nintendo's systems is one of the most maddening I have ever encountered. Ignorance is bliss.

Because people didn't shell out even more than that for a 360? They were going for over $1,000 on Ebay. Trust me, as much as that price pisses me off, Sony is smart for selling it at that price.

There will always be idiots out there with more money than common sense. I have a 360 but I bought it at retail pricing because I am not an idiot. I refuse to pay $600 (+tax) to Sony for a blu-ray DVD drive that happens to also be a game system.

I have seen the Wii demonstration.... care to explain what's so enfuriating about me associating kiddie games with nintendo?

The only game that looked mildly interesting was that red steel game, but there's just no way I'm going to be moving my arm around like a ninja, I would feel rediculous and probably look rediculous too.

Add on that and the fact that the graphics will be on par with the gamecube's (which is no slouch by any means but cmmmmon) and no HDTV support, there's just no way I'll ever buy a Wii, unless they come out with a game that's absofvckingloutly amazing and makes me buy a Wii just to play it.

They'll certainly capture the hardcore gamer market, but if I'm a parent shopping for a Christmas present in November and I have the option between a 360 that's readily available and $300-400 or a PS3 that's impossible to find an nearly twice the price, which am I going to choose?

To me, the PSX was possibly the greatest console in the history of gaming, neck-and-neck with the SNES. The PS2 wasn't my favorite console of this generation, but I certainly bought a few dozen games for it over the years. I even bought the PSP, in hope that the games would get better (they didn't; I sold it recently).

That said, I have absolutely no intention to buy a PS3. Nothing short of a perfect 10, Game-of-the-Year candidate FF7 remake could reel me in.

yup

i think microsoft really hit the nail on the head with the 360... not the best specs out there, but feasible ones and much improved... awesome marketing campaign... xbox live.... backwards compátibility with games that matter... no complaints really!
awesome job... really!

sony tried to go over the top and it just ended up being way too expensive and taking way too long, even if it will in the end look somewhat better than the 360...

props to nintendo too... they obviously couldn't compete on the same level so they tried doing something completely different and have succeded brilliantly!

i never liked sony or playstation and i'm gonna love watching them fail!

no matter what you think, PS3 will not fail. You all have to remember sony has like a 4:1 ratio on MS w/the market share with the PS2/xbox. people are going to pay $600 for the PS3 no questions asked.

Fixed for realism (ebay).

Most of us remember E3 2005, when Xbox 360 was really coming out and showing us what they had in store for their costomers the following Holiday season. Most of us also remember that that's when sony decided to officially reveal the PS3, with alot of promising news and facts.

I watched the press conferences, but there was one thing that really botherd me, and made quite a "scandal" on the web, it was that Killzone 2 video. It looked AMAZING. Of course we all know now it was a pre-rendered video, but how in hell could we let sony get away with showing that video, with the PS3 and sony logo along with it, and then a year later not even as much as a refrence or an apology on how that clip was fake? and they just showed it to wow people and steal microsoft's thunder (well earned thunder I might add)?

It wasn't just Killzone though. It was everything about the PS3 presentation at E3 2005 that had me calling "BS". It was like Sony knew they weren't going to have anything ready anytime soon to compete with the 360 so they just mocked up a PS3 and a bunch of BS features to beat (on paper) the 360. Everything from the dual-port 1080p HDMI, to the Spring Launch, to the 7 controllers, to the dozens of memory card slots, and on and on and on.

Same tactic they used against the Dreamcast. Except now people are calling them on the BS. There will be very few, if any 1080p games much less dual-port 1080p HDMI. Only 4 controllers. The Spring Launch was a farce as the Fall Launch is now turning into one.
