1.Its slow, average connection speed 28.8kbps on a 56k Modem
2.Its Unreliable
3.The number is always engaged
4.it kicks you off
5.when it does kick you off it take 20 attempts to log on, sometimes even a restart
6. By the time it refreshes the webpage its already stale
7.Its barely cheaper than Broadband
8.People take the pss
9.Cant play games online, lags to high
10. Cant download XP SP1 because its too big, so i had to buy it on CD

Why I Dont Have Broadband
1. Coz BT are to fat and fvcking idle to install it in the exchange

Why I dont have a decent speed
1.Because BT are to fat and idle to give us decent wires

How many times connection was dropped while typing this post = Twice
How many reconnect attempts for each line drop = 20+
Annoyance Factor = Unscalable

Had to get that off my chest, thanks

Get a new ISP then. Half of your problems just sounds like an incompotent ISP, combined with a crappy phone company (never heard of BT because I'm not in the UK)

I'm actually using Netzero dialup until I move into my house next month with Cable.

$9.95 a month is NOT BAD at all IMHO for unlimited 56k service from Netzero. And I can live with the speed. I mean, all I do is browse the net. If I need to download large files, I download them at work and burn them onto a CD.

I managed the full download of Win 2k SP4 (all 129MB of it) on my 56k. I used Leechget though, so I could resume the d/l, but managed fairly good speeds.

I have 24/7 (anytime) with random disconnection (can stay connected for 6 hours sometimes). Phone lines and connecting/email service has been an issue, but that could be because recently my old ISP changed and now our service is through a new provider.
I manage 45KB/s, although online gaming is a no-no.

Go to Breathe
Only had the service ~1 month, but it's not too bad (now), although it was quite hellish to begin, just after a load of people had been switched to their service.

There are a few niggles, but mostly it's fine.

This is funny. I feel for you, man. I'm also on dialup. Where I live, nothing ever changes. In fact, it's great to have even dialup here b/c it isn't easy to get a simple phoneline installed here. So we had dialup 5 years ago. We still have only it. Broadband is not a viable option in forseeable future. However, I don't think my dialup sucks as much as yours seems to. Sometimes it holds the connection for up to 8 or more hours, if I wish, it constantly connects at 50.6K and I could d/l one file of 945 megs in just 10 nights via a flie sharing program. I can give you a good piece of advice - use Getright. Then downloading SP1 would be a piece of cake. 100 megs? That's nothing.

dialup here.... 40 year old phone lines... and my parents like earthlink too much to change.... nothing i can say will change their minds....

when it rains.. everytime there is lightning within a mile of my house i get disconnected.. it's unstable.. disconnects me all the time (even without rain).. whenever the modem gets tired of running dead sprint then standing still it just boots me because it times me out

unless my system just dosent have enough power to keep the modem happy (it's enough... trust me) then it has to be my ISP or the phone company... but my parents dont undestand this

Of course, dialup does suck bigtime. Pretty much everything you can do with it is reading tabloids and posting on non-graphic forums like ATOT, playing online games or downloading lots of stuff is completely out of the question. But what else would you expect from a simple phoneline? I think it's pretty good for a couple of low quality copper wires.

Maybe that's what you do (according to your sig you got like 6 of them ;)), but how would it improve his dialup? No way.

I love my dial up

1. Free
2. Automatically connects when the computer starts
3. No phone number changes for the last 3 years.
4. Kicks you off once a year
5. Constant 49.2kb/sec
6. No telemarketers calling, because my landline is always busy :D
7. I don't waste a lot of time on the internet, because you can't bare it, so you go read a book after few hours.
8. Friends don't send you big pointless videos, they know I am on 56k
9. No online games that WASTE your time
10. You're efficient as hell when choosing to ignore bunch of websites because of lack of patience
11. Look at my AT per-day post count, and you will see why 56k rulez

56k rulez, broadband sucks.

Respond?

Can't dl pron.

12. Instead of spending the time online looking for pron, I look for it outside in real places with real people...its faster, better quality(3D instead of 2D), for some reason more respected that way.

I'm on dialup, provided by a local ISP in the cleveland area. I get disconnected about every 3 hours or so, and once I do it usually takes a half hour or so to get back on. Im currently connected at 34.0kbps. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to connect at 46kbps.

And every time we have bad weather, I get disconnected because my ISP's systems become "broken" due to the storm. That's what the CSR tells me anway.
