Why I don't worry too much about fundies...

It's time for a tactical retreat in the culture wars, but it's not as bad as it seems.

Every day on the news I keep hearing more and more ridiculous fundy behavior. They are getting more and more confident and are not trying to sugar-coat their backwards ideas and plans.

You can hear fundies straight up pushing for more religion in government, Kansas-style science and so on. Sure, most Americans are Christians, but they aren't fundies. I don't think most Americans are interested in having no abortion (so the polls say), learning creationism and so on. I don't think religious minorities are going to like having protestant zealots say that their god is the true god of the USA.

Let GWB go all out and push whatever he wants. Let the fanatics make the most ridiculous comments they can. It will only lead to their demise.

We all vote with them, which eradicates any real power they might have except in very limited cases that don't really make any significant impact in the overall scheme of things.

Considering that, I don't see any intelligent basis for all this fearmongering that goes on about Christian fundies. Fundies had far more influence in the past than they do today, an influence that has steadily decreased over the years, and that trend doesn't seem to be changing unless you want to put a magnifying glass to it and fret about every little peak (whilst ignoring the valleys).

I think the Democrats will do the opposite, in fact, they'll start pandering more to the religious right. Maybe if you show them how the war in Iraq is actually very UNChristian-like, it would help. You know, instead of calling them names, i.e. redneck. The division of America is saddening. And while Bush's war in Iraq has certainly been an escalation of that division, furthering it with what can be perceived as anti-Christianity doesn't help.

Hello. These Churches are Armies of the Republican Controlled Government armed with Billions and Billions in Tax Payer money.

Unless that money gets taken away the Church Army of the Republican Right is not going to go anywhere, it will be around and is as important as the Military to them.

the fundies will have their day until they find out that secular society is more prevelent than they think. people like drinking until drunk, casinos, porn, hookers, sleeping in on sunday, wearing revealing clothing, saying goddamn, SEX, and other forms of raising cain. you cannot force salvation on people, it makes you no differant than the evils you supposedly oppose.

Hopefully after they destroy the filibuster so that when the pay-back comes it will be swift unstoppable and complete, including the removal of the lifetime tenure for judges and the removal of activist conservative Republican appointees so that these good Christians are reminded that you reep what they sow.

Lots of fundies do all that stuff now. Hypocrisy just isn't considered a big deal anymore. Here in Bush's America, you don't win by standing by your principles. You win by destroying your opponent's reputation and accomplishments through propaganda and lies.

I worry a little about the Fundies myself. They can say some crazy stuff and do things that I find really strange.

Come to think of it, those Radical Islamic Fundamentalists are definately a threat. I'm not sure we have the luxury of waiting for them to ruin their own image.

Probably a decent amount, but the disadvantaged in society will pay most. E.g., some poor person will have to get talked to about god to get help or will not be able to have an abortion.

I hate to say it but if they are going to get rid of the filibuster I hope they do it quick and get some real conservative judges in pronto. I say let them go nuts for a little while. It will teach the other Republicans that they are in bed with true nut jobs. What I'm saying is, 'let's get it over with.' It's gonna' be painful, but it will be grand when the backlash hits. And after the backlash, we might be in an even better position in the longrun if the zealots are discredited.
