Why I can't I see the Drives/Folders I've shared on the network?

I have two computers on a home network. They are networked through a D-Link router. One pc runs Windows XP Media Center Edition and the other runs Windows XP Home.

I have run the Network Setup Wizard on both computers, and I have shared the C: drive on both computers.

When I go to My Network Places on either computer, I don't see the shared drive from the other computer.

The workgroups are the same. I tried pinging each computer from the other, both by name and ip.

The results I get both times:

4 packets sent, 4 packets lost.
Request timed out.

But in My Network Places, when I click "View workgroup computers," I get the message, "Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The network path was not found."

What am I doing wrong?

Are you running a software firewall? XP SP2 has a built-in one that you need to turn off.

I have turned off Windows Firewall on both and still doesn't work. However, I have another software firewall enabled, so I'll try turning those off when I get home today.

Are both drives NTFS formatted? Have you turned off simple file sharing? Go to Start > Run then type in \\<computer name> without the < > and see if it will bring up the shares.
