Why haven't we seen 1 Playstation 3 screen shot in 1080P?

After seeing some new Call of Duty 3 screen shots this morning, it hit me - why have we not yet seen 1 screen shot for the PS3 in 1080P yet Sony is claiming that EVERY PS3 game will be rendered at 1080P?

aside from most people knowing sony overhypes everything and then under deliver, is there any other kind of logical reason for this?

Sony claim != reality

That's why.

Also I've heard the PS3 has tons of trouble showing 1080p, and the developers don't like it.

dude, i already had a crack at your for this ;)

Srsly tho, i think $ony (that's how we spell it now right?) has bitten off more than they can chew with the PS3...

However, i've been rather underwhelmed with the 360, the PC is still where it is at, and always will be :D

360 720p is pretty enough for me, even with my 45" LCD i have to stand 2 ft from the monitor to play games because everything is so damn detailed... its hard to make out the details when im sitting on the couch trying to snipe down people in PDZ

You make an interesting point. My guess (and it's sheer conjecture) is that they can't achieve decent framerates with 1080p. Personally my HDTV is 720p anyway, so I don't care about the distinction.

you have a quote that says all games will be 1080p? I found:

3. The PlayStation 3 will include BluRay , the high definition DVD technology, and support games in resolutions of up to 1080p, (the highest supported standard on the market.) Given that information, please choose the statement below that best describes you.

Xbox officials claim 1080p is impossible, of course, take that with multiple grains of salt. That said, I'm a big fan of the 360 console, controller, and design, though the lack the software to back it up at the moment.

I got a 360 opening day and mostly use it for dvd's.

I don't think 1080p will catch on as quickly or as much as people think for several reasons though, one of them being this next generation format war.

The Sony dude explicitly said it in their E3 conference if I'm not mistaken. I wll try to find a source I saw it on but I'm like 100% sure they claimed this.

I haven't seen an exact quote stating that all the PS3 games will be 1080p either. But, I have seen Sony execs imply that in statements alot. When they say stuff like (paraphrasing), the hi-def era doesn't start until the PS3 is released and that the 360 doesn't have true HD (despite the fact it displays HD in the same resolutions as Sony HDTVs)....consumers are led to believe that the PS3 will primarily be a 1080p platform.

Let's not forget Sony's boasts of dual 1080p output either.

If they're just implying it, well, that's just marketing.

Here is one link where they say this ...
To match the accelerating convergence of digital consumer electronics and computer technology, PS3 supports high quality display in resolution of 1080p(*) as standard, which is far superior to 720p/1080i.

they are claiming that 1080p will be the standard output display on the PS3, and by standard, that usually means that it'll be a standard that every game has to meet. apparently that's not the case anymore.

but I also coulda sworn I have heard them flat out say every game will be 1080p. That whole article is actually a funny read, saying how the whole HD era doesn't start till the PS3 is on the market. I know it's from 2005, but it's funny how much crap sony spewed and backed out of the ps3 as a whole.

Meh, if you nitpicked, all they are saying is that the PS3 can output 1080p (which it can, as a standard feature), and that its superior to 720p (which it is).

In that same article, they also claim to "adopt" BD-ROM, but I'm sure several games will initially ship on much cheaper DVDs, so its not going to be universally used.

If they really wanted to they could make statements like:

"With games on the original Xbox, developers had the option to support HD graphics, but Xbox 360 demands that all games feature high-definition options."

"Yes, all games that are genuine Xbox 360 titles must support at least 720p. Following the October 25th relaunch of Xbox.com there were several games including Oblivion and NBA2K6 that had pages stating that they supported 480i. This is a bit of misinformation or oversight that will be corrected soon. Every indication from Microsoft is that every game that is ever released for the platform must support at least 720p."

Unm they do. every game on the XBox360 supports 720p. They also support the lower resolutions for those who don't have an HDTV.

or was I misreading your post?

Yeah, what I meant was that Sony could have made equivalent statements if they really meant it. I'll wait for an exact quote.

yes if you read the fvcking article you would see that the astericks points to something that is along the lines of "P stands for progressive whereas I stands for interlaced".

gotcha. but yah as I stated previously I remember from the e3 conference this year sony explicitly claimed that every game would be in 1080p, where it's obviously not the case now, and the only game that is actually in 1080p at this time is craptastic GTHD.

From the link I edited in my last post: Text

"Except there is no standard for 1080p at 60Hz - which is probably what you were experiencing on PC.

You have to remember we are talking about TV resolutions here, not PC. 1080p broadcast & blu-ray/HD-DVD standards are 1080p/24fps and 1080p/30fps. I bet you wouldn't enjoy the stuttery gameplay on the PC if you ran at 30fps.

And as there is no standard for 1080p/60, it is 99.9% probable the PS3 and every currently available 1080p television will never support it - we are talking hardware limitation, not software. You can't design something for a standard that doesn't exist. "
