Why have memory w/ higher speeds than supported

I dunno, maybe I'm an idiot, but whenever I see people buying PC4000 or PC5000 ram, when the mobo only supports PC3200, I fail to see why. Whats the point of buying memory over the supported?

Well for me I buy it so I can OC my chip without having to worry about dividers.
