Most of them jsut sit there and don't get watched more than once every 6 months. It'd take decades of renting them to pay for buying all of them... so why is it I buy them?

I have close to 500 DVD's in my collection, and I ask myself the same question from time to time.

It's the "can't pass up a good deal" syndrome

It is nicer to own DVD's that you really like instead of having to rent them. This way, you feel like watching it you can just pop them in instead of having to go to the rental store.

This is particularly the case for me because I don't have a car.

Two words: Netflix and Smart Ripper. Turn your rentals into permanent additions to your collection. :)

I just dropped $100 on DVDs from Columbia House even though I really shouldn't have spent the money. Couldn't pass up $5 DVDs.

I have about 10 movies I downloaded sitting on my hard drive that I've never even watched... and they're good movies, too. I keep thinking I should buy the DVDs and support the people that made them, but I've never even watched them since I downlaoded them.
