However, the male lion won't take any crap from a hyena. On average, an adult male lion is 3-4 times the size of a hyena and is not afraid to kill it. They are viscous mortal enemies.

Hyenas are a family of their own, the Hyaenidae. They're more closely related to cats than dogs, but their closest relatives are the Herpestidae -- mongooses, meerkats and such.

Any way a hyena would kick a dogs ass any day of the week.
