Why hasn't Top Gear ever reviewed a Saleen?

I doubt they sell cars outside of the US territories which would make it difficult for Top Gear UK to get a hold of one. It's certainly possible the US version of Top Gear could test one.

I think most of the high end cars they test are actually owned by customers, not the manufacturers... I doubt they could find a Saleen owner willing to let them test their car.. If there are owners in the UK at all.

They tested the Ford GT, so I'm sure there's an S7 owner somewhere around there.

That was Jeremy's Ford GT, I think.

But.. They're on sale in the UK.

no, they reviewed two GT's that weren't Jeremy's. One in Detroit was a near-production prototype, and the one on the test track was a production example before they were available to buy in the UK (jeremy's name was on the short list, but his car wasn't delivered for a long time afterwards).

Some annual sales figures for the S7:

2003: 13
2004: 8
2005: 14

Ferrari built 400 Enzo's in 2 years, which are Honda Civic type production numbers compared to the S7. With sales figures like those, I would say the odds of even one S7 being in the UK are slim and none, and if you owned one, would you lend it Top Gear after watching how they drive those cars on their track? I doubt Saleen would have any interest in providing a British TV show a test car either.

Those are rare sales numbers. I know I saw 3 different ones while I was down in SoCal.. but I think Saleen was around that area too.

Wow I didn't know they were that 'rare'

I remeber Tiff on fifth gear took a white S7 around their tack couple of years ago. I don'r remember the details though.

How about a Saleen Mustang? Where they just rework everything, that would be a top contender to Roush's model.

TG has a rule that they don't review cars which aren't on sale or will be on sale in the UK. The show has always been this way. They might *talk* about cars not sold in the UK during the news or other segments, but they do not do power tests of them or lap tests.
