why has flash become the player of choice for streaming video?

With the UnPlug Extension for Mozilla, I no longer resent Flash Videos. True, some files don't allow you to seek or zoom....but its optimal quality for the size.

I just installed the addon but it doesn't really help with embedded flash files.

I'm a long time user of the internet - since like the compuserve days. I for one welcome flash as a video source. No more fiddling round with various media players just to view embedded video.
