First of all, people should start to wake up and smell the coffee:

Android is not open, yet it still so full of incredible suckage (stability, refinement, app quality, etc).

http://www.dailytech.com/Google+Cru...rty+Laundry+Aired+in+Lawsuit/article21579.htm

Second, people should begin to examine what Google actually brings to the table:

1) Superior search engine
2) ???

I used to rely on Google for many things, but times have changed.

Email? There are great free providers out there that compete well, it used to be that Gmail was far ahead (and perhaps is still is better in many ways)

Maps? Undoubtedly, still probably the better Map engine than Bing, but others have gotten better as well.

Today, GOOG has actually fallen below AAPL, something unimaginable years ago.

It is behind in the Cloud storage race - DropBox, iDisk etc have already claimed that. Music locker? You can't succeed with a music locker without a Music purchasing integration. Amazon has a huge lead over it and we know iTunes will dominate the competition when iCloud comes out (despite my insistence that you should never buy music from iTunes).

Google has one crown that no one can take away right now - Search & advertising. I'm thinking Google will eventually decline to the point where Search is the only thing that people will prefer Google over another service.

Thread locked as a troll thread after a warning was given mid-thread to the OP change his tone that appears to have been ignored.

I didn't realize activating 300,000 devices a day or whatever # it was indicates a failing product thats going away. I'll give away my EVO immediately since its worthless and buy an iPhone. Thanks for showing me the light.

When Android devices cost $50 and buy one and get one free with new activation, you're actually delusional enough to think quality is indicative of superiority?

I would whoreheartedly recommend anybody I know to use a Windows Phone 7 over an Android phone. Despite both being plastic boxes, one at least looks and feels modern and refined, while the other looks like a hacked up mess of lagfest.

Who else on the forum can say these things having owned all of these phones? I've owned more Android phones than iPhones and have used a Windows Phone 7 extensively.

First of all Google is growing, and expanding it's use base every day. Android is capturing more of the smart-phone market, and the marketplace is expanding in both quantity and quality of apps. Secondly Android is open. Perhaps you need to go figure out what "open source" means.

When Android devices cost $50

iPhone 3GS is $49, WinMo phones are even cheaper and I think RIM is paying users a few hundred bucks for each month they are seen carrying a BlackBerry at this point.

You didn't read the Daily Tech article did you?

Google is open as long as you're developing a POS software or service that is inferior to Google's own service.

You don't know the definition of open source do you?

iPhone 3GS is old and available on one carrier.

Brand new Android devices are selling for buy one get one, free, $50 etc.

Hell I bought my Droid back in the day with a buy one get one free deal ($100), and that was FLAGSHIP Android lol.

Your free to not like android but claiming that its failing in the market is just retarded. Android has the highest market share AND is the fastest growing platform. I have no idea what you mean by GOOG has fallen below AAPL. Apple has a higher market cap than google and has for sometime. They are two completely different companies and I have no idea what relevance this has to who is winning the smartphone wars.

Show me any high end Android phone that's new going for $50 or BOGO.

I almost started listing off the dozens of other carriers that carried the 3GS, but between that comment and your comments about the pricing on phones clearly you aren't trying very hard. If you are going to blatantly troll, at least get creative.

Actually, one thing I don't get is the fact that the only thing Google used is the compatibility aspect of Android to "force" the manufacturers to exit their contract

The article claims that it would possibly stop the sale of new Android handsets, but that doesn't make sense. The only thing that the compatibility test does is allow you access to the market. Of course an Android phone without the market is gimped, but that doesn't mean that Skyhook would have been prevented from doing stuff. If the hardware vendors wanted, they could just have put that stuff on non Google phones or sell Android based stuff that was never meant to have a market in the first place.

As for the GPS technology, isn't the combination of WIFI, GPS, Cell tower thing the exact same thing that everyone else already does?

Not only market capitalization, but Apple is now the most powerful brand and arguably COMPANY in the world.

This is the same guy that doesn't understand that people hate iTunes because it sucks...if they think it sucks they just "don't know how to use it".

He's one of the biggest Apple trolls we've had in a long time. Ignore him.
