Why get Married?

There's at least one anti-marriage site out there. I'm partially interested in why it's a good idea to get married. I've never even gone out on a date, so part of me truly, truly, does not understand the form of affection that enables you to stay with a person, engage in sexual intercourse with them, marry them in some outdated religious cermeont, and perhaps have children together.

Another question; why do people keep doing the "default" form of Christian marriage, even if they're not really worshippers or are atheistic/agnostic? Why spend $10,000, $20,000, etc. for a one day ceremony that requires so much preparation and a certain formality that some of the guests find uncomfortable?

EDIT: SERIOUS answers only please

Before you wonder if you should get married or not, I would urge you to date girls first. Just to see how you feel when starting to really get interested in one of them.

It's true that there are bad and good girls out there. Not ever girl out there is for you, not all of them are your type.....but once you find the who which really makes you happy....things will just flow naturally.

I'm still looking for the right one. Found some rather interesting ones along the way. Sucks only one of them was single and I blew my chance with her.

But it's all part of life.

You said it yourself, you've never even been on a date (and don't seem to have interest in sex)....so I just don't think it could be explained in any way you could possibly conceptualize. Why don't you get out and see if you even like girls first, then ask us about the whole "holding hands" thing.

...baby steps.

I tend to think marriage as we define it is against human nature.

No - See 40 Year Old Virgin.

To be honest, I don't care one way or the other. I'm 27, and happy being with myself, and being with my cats. I'm not interested in sex period. Not a religous thing, it just doesn't interest me.

There's probably nothing comparable to the level of intimacy, not just physically intimacy, and trust that people can achieve when married. That's why when people get older yet uglier, they often still love each other as much or more than ever.

Is the same level of intimacy and trust achievable as well as sustainable while staying unmarried?

No. Imo.

if you're not sexually interested in girls, then of course marriage doesn't make sense.

However, i'd say most guys don't fall under that assumption.

being catholic...my friends have spent $50K on weddings...not saying religion has anything to do it but you can spend as much as you can afford or go way overboard...when I was married I spent $10K on everything including the honeymoon..
