Not bad. Have heard it all before but the diagrams were cute. The taunting angle is interesting. I still think the baby boomers fucked their kids over for their own gains to some extent, though. They oversaw the hollowing out process of the middle class and have brought us to the point we are now at: the top 1%, 5% at the most are still growing and everybody else is flat or falling.

I watched the movie wall street yesterday.

"You guys are the NINJA generation! No jobs, no incomes, and no assets, you're all fucked haha!"

And gen y was like haha!

But I think it is dawning on them right around now that they actually are pretty screwed. Our parents didn't have to borrow nearly as much to get an education, house, car, etc. Even when adjusted for inflation. Even people with assets are feeling squeezed and sell off assets to survive but Gen Y of course never had any golden economic years to acquire any to begin with.

So while the boomers are doing reverse mortgages and shit saying money doesn't grow on trees or whatever, ah screw it its a disaster. You get my drift though.

there is alot to be unhappy about

1. high cost of health care
2. high cost of education
3. high unemployment with strong competition
4. global instability
5. housing market issues
6. social media dramatizing every poop fart in the world

nothign like hearing an older person say, "I worked through college for my education"...well that was when it probably cost $10k or less TOTAL for all four years, tuition and board :)

EDIT:
Ok...after reading the story I'm like :colbert:

#1, don't forget that the greatest generation completely spoiled their kids. And as they die off right now, guess who is divorced, went into foreclosure, lost their job, and is addicted to drugs? That's right, the baby boomer generation. That's not exactly the same fostering environment that "the greatest generation" gave to their children....

#2, we don't know how gen Y will be as parents/elders yet...because they are just now barely coming into that age group. Gen Y is still the generation of our Youth.

#3, there is a huge fucking difference between kids raised in late 90's vs late 70's . Very difficult and hard to understand how these are the same generation?

#4, baby boomer gen. needs to take a long hard look in the mirror. Look past the plastic surgery. Look past the fake hair. Look past the makeup. Look past the stack of pills. Look past your legal paperwork that has been piling up. Look past your bills.
Now...
Look at where you were 20-30 years ago when you first had kids.
Now look at yourself and your children now.

Thanks baby boomers! D:

(All jokes aside, Gen Y is pretty fucking pompous and self centered, and I do agree with the whole "live your life dream" bullshit is very strong, but we were trained this way i guess....)

That article sums it up pretty well.
They want it all right now without working for it.
They blame all of their problems on their parents.

And for these little nuggets:

1. high cost of health care.

Health Care was expensive back then also, we didn't go to the Doctor unless we were really sick. A sniffle isn't sick, really.

2. high cost of education.

A lot of us had to teach ourselves and use experience to get an education.

3. high unemployment with strong competition.

High unemployment has happened before. Sometimes you have to take whatever job is available. Yes even if it isn't in your field.

4. global instability.

Nothing new here.

5. housing market issues.

Neither my parents or grandparents ever owned a house until I was long gone.

6. social media dramatizing every poop fart in the world.

Anyone that even pays attention to " Social Media " or values what crap gets posted deserve what they get.

Think you are missing GenX there who raised the GenY, not the baby boomers...

Gen X was born in the 60s.

I am gen y -1982

My brother is a gen x - born in 1969

I think most gen y was born to baby boomers. Kids who have gen X as parents were born around 2000 and would be in high school at the oldest.

Apparently it's all the Gen X folks fault. Who would have known.

Taken from another thread:

Our resident baby boomer with his hand out for more of that government money he's been using his whole life! No surprise that this 47%er wants more. Fuck everyone else!

Those evil bastards who worked all their lives and receive a pension they earned while still working....damn them to hell!

Depends on what you mean when you say they 'earned their pension'. In almost all cases baby boomers passed on the cost of their pensions to future generations and are pissed that now the future generations don't want to pay for it.

In some cases, that intergenerational inequity is far more egregious than in others.

My pension stems from a military career. I believe I more than I earned a pension although I suppose many won't.

I'm close enough. I missed baby boomer by just a year or two.

Oh, I misread that you were stating that baby boomers were the Gen. X crowd. Sorry about that.

(for the record, I'm not too far from being on the tail end of the baby boom generation myself).

Assuming most teabaggers belong to the baby boomer generation, they are railing against a government that they helped create. Also, the majority of lawmakers are part of the baby boomer generation.

Thats not to say they didnt also create some of the greatest government programs we have, specifically NASA. Imagine if we had diverted a 1/4 of our military spending to NASA. We probably would have already landed on mars.

The rise of the microprocessor is one of the technological off shoots from NASA. At that time they were spending loads of money and demanding manufaturers to cut cost, size, and power usage in order to use them on space flights. This resulted in a massive jumpstart to a oversized stagnant computer market.

Look at historical mortgage rates. Look closely to the Carter era. Then again, people weren't clamoring for 4400sq foot mini mansions.

because happiness = reality - expectations, and their expectations are through the ROOF

What do you mean through the roof?

You can not be happy unless your house cost at least half a mil, have a spouse with a model figure, 2 kids, pet, 2 cars and maybe a truck or SUV, 2 master degrees and working on your phd, pool, vacation in the bahamas, and take a trip to Europe every other year,,,,,.

There was once a time when people wanted to be financially secure, live a low stress life, and enjoy their life.

This is pretty spot on. I tell my younger co-workers my generation was the first to be coddled and told we are special. And because of that we are obnoxious and arrogant. And it only gets worse the younger we go. These millenials are making my generation look like our grand parents from WWII.

Anyways some of that article is pretty spot on. Especially the FB crap. I dont usually care or get jealous or insecure about my position in life. I lead a comfortable life and could get more out of my career if I wanted. But havent had a motivation to progress because I am happy. That was until a highschool buddy posted about his company he founded 10 years ago now has 700 employees. My first reaction was "awesome for you". Then as the day wore on I got insecure and started questioning wtf is going on in my life. I probably spent the better half of a week tossing and turning in bed questioning why I am fine with making a comfortable living and not driving myself to be more. It was actually pathetically comical looking back at it. At the very least it has got me out looking for better paying jobs :D

May I suggest their expectations are based on what their parents had, and they have less than their parents. Is quality of life declining in the USA?

Yes, I think so.

My parents are babyboomers. My dad has an associates degree in criminal justice, he was a cop and worked as a security guard, my mom went to work for the post office.

They bought a home, were able to buy a new car every few years and raised my brother and I.

Today, I seriously doubt someone holding the same jobs my parents held would be able to as well as they did.

Even something as basic as buying a middle class home is out of reach for most working class families.

Uhh... nope. Any government job still pays through the roof compared to the private equivalent. Why do you think USPS is having to do shit? (Potentially stop Saturday delivery, running shitloads of ad campaigns, and trying to work with the private industry)

That is because the post office is not allowed to make a profit. Any profit is handed over to the government. Thus the post office does not have a financial safety net.
